Chapter Eleven

I quickly grabbed a towel to cover myself and turned around, "Emma?"

"In the flesh," she stood in front of me, heels planted firmly on the slick shower tiles,"don't worry, I just wanted to talk to you about some rumors going around."

My heart started racing in my chest, my mind jumping to conclusions, and my mouth frantically switching to autopilot-,"What kind of rumors exactly?"

Emma batted her eyes innocently,"Oh, nothing in particular," she tucked her pin-straight hair behind her ear,"just- rumors, I've just heard that you had been doing some peculiar things recently."

At this point, my heart was beating so hard and fast it felt like I couldn't breathe. How many people had Pierce told already? What was the likelihood that people actually believed him.

Yet I felt my gaze hardening, my chin pointing upwards to prove my unwavering facade to Emma,"Please do be more specific."

"I just want to make sure that things between you and Ryan are good. And I want make sure that you and Pierce aren't getting too comfortable," she smiled, revealing her perfect pearly white teeth as a snake would expose it's fangs before delivering venom,"Because then we would have a real problem here."

I couldn't help letting out a huge sigh of relief- that's what she had wanted to talk to me about?

With my body and mind relaxed, I was able to smile back- matching one poisonous grin with another,"Things between us are good- fantastic in fact," but my body betrayed me, flushing at the thought of Bella,"and believe me- the last thing I want to do right now is talk to Pierce."

"Just clarifying-" Emma looked slightly disappointed," I knew you're smart enough to never cross my path. Which is equivalent to betraying the team I hope you're aware."

She said something about practice and left. As the click-click of her heels grew fainter, I nearly collapsed onto the shower floor in fatigue- dreading the hours to come.
