Chapter Eighteen

The drive was quiet as Luke pulls onto my street.

I hope my mother isn't mad I stayed out with Luke for a long time. He pulls up into my drive way and puts the car in park. We sit in silence for a minute before I get out.

"I had a really great time.." I look to Luke and he smiles.

"Good, I did too" He says I am about to open the door and walk up into my house.

"Cass, wait." He says and I freeze and look back to him.

"I.. I would like to see you again and hang out" He says with his blue eyes gleam.

"Okay I'd like that" I smile. "Would you want my number?" I ask him

"Yeah sure" He nods as I look in my purse for a pen and I find one as he puts his arm out and I write the simple digits on his arm and he gives me a smile.

I give him a quick hug as I exit the vehicle and enter my home. As I look over my moms 'lover' is still here and I'm quite surprised he is here this late.

I walk into my house and kick off my sandals and walk up the stairs into my room to change into pajamas. When I do I plop onto my bed and decide to call Ashton.

His phone rings a few times and goes to voice mail. He's probably in bed or something so I decide to call Aly next.

"Hey Girl!" She says into the phone

"Hey" I say

"Why Did you leave the party last night? Ash and I were worried about you what happened?" She asks and I explain how I walked in on Riley making out with someone and she couldn't believe what a jerk he was and I told her about Luke and thinking he likes me of course I left out the kissing in his room and when we were skateboarding but I told her how open we were to each other and she tells me that he seems really sweet and we'd be cute together making me blush I tell her i'm tired and I want to go to bed.

I hang up the phone with Aly and try to sleep.

It's now two in the morning and I can't sleep, I've tried. But I can't get Luke off my mind. I wonder if he's still up thinking about me too. I wonder if he feels how I do, he has to. He said that he's felt that he knows me longer than what he actually has, which is the same feeling I have.

Just the thought of Luke makes me happy and I feel butterflies flowing in my stomach and it grumbles, probably from the lack of food I had. I push my blankets off me and quietly walk down the hallway. I grab some Chinese takeout box out of the fridge my mom and Josh must have ordered.

I eat some and wash it down with some water and brush my teeth and start heading backup stairs. As I turn I bump into some one

"WHAT THE HECK" I scream from fear and shock

"Cassie?" The person says I reach for a light switch and flick it on and I see it's Josh, in just his boxers.

"Oh oh my god I I'm sorry I just was going back to bed.."

"No it's fine.. I was just getting some water sorry if I scared you" He apoligizes. I nod and head back up to my room.

"Cassie.." He quitely shouts my name. I stop and turn around.

"Yeah?" I ask

"Why... Why don't you like me?" He questions and I think about running into my room and ignoring him but I don't, I look at him.

"It's not that I don't like you..." I silently begin "It's that my mom...she always has guys like this" I say gesturing at him, rich, nice, and goodlooking. "And she puts too much trust in them and they break her heart and I am the only one here for her. You're just going to be like all of them. You'll leave eventually. Like them" I say not even knowing why I let that slip out of my mouth. He looks confused and kind of hurt or offended. He stands there looking at me in deep thought until he clears his throat.

"Cassie, I"

"Cass" I correct him

"Cass, I would never hurt your mom, I love her and care for her." He says as I huff in annoyance as the words come from his mouth.

"Ha yeah that's what they all said..." I snap back.

"Cass, I promise I will do my best to never hurt your mom, I love her." He says and I just stand there looking at him trying not to show any emotion. Something about him makes me feel he is meaning every word he says. But I don't want to believe it because I don't want to end up believing a lie, if he is lying, and getting hurt too.

"And I swear I will do anything to make you and her happy I care for both of you. You're a very nice young girl and I'm sorry if you got that impression that I was like the others" He says as I feel a tear slide down my cheek and I wipe it dry.

"Okay?" He says

"You promise?" I quitely whipser.

"I promise to try my best to make your mother and you happy and I will never hurt your mother on purpose. I promise" He tells me bringing me into a hug.

I don't know what to do besides hug back. Something in my heart tells me that I know he isn't lying and he's trying his best. The hug doesn't last long because it's kind of awkward but he gives me a wave down the hall as I enter my bedroom and soon I fall into my bed and my thoughts are shut down by the darkness of the night taking over and falling into a deep sleep.
