The Beginning

Part 1: The Beginning

It was summer of 1998 in Clovelly, England. The breeze from the coast made the air ever so crisp. The sun was shinning brighter than before.

Caroline Forbes was a 10 year old girl. She had beautiful blonde curls and big blue eyes. Her smile could make the room light up.

Niklaus Mikaelson was a 12 year old boy. He had sea blue eyes, blonde curls and an adorable dimpled smile.

Niklaus and Caroline are two completely different kids which means their personalities do not clash together. Caroline and Niklaus are the towns sweethearts, not that they love each other, they are inseparable.

It was a bright day in Clovelly.

Caroline and Niklaus are playing in the park along with Katherine, Elena and Elijah. They were playing the British traditional sport, Cricket.

Caroline looked at her friends. "I have something to tell you"

Niklaus and Katherine's eyes snapped straight into the blondes direction.

"What is it?" Niklaus asked Caroline, a worried expression on his face.

Caroline shuffled from foot to foot as she is preparing her friends with what she is about yo say.

"Caroline!" Elijah called the blonde.

"Care, what's wrong?" Elena wondered, stroking Caroline's back affectionately.

Caroline let out a tired sigh.

"In the next couple of weeks..." she paused, unable to continue.

"Caroline" Niklaus whispered to his friend.

"In a couple of weeks I won't be living here anymore" Caroline explained in a hushed tone.

"What!" They all exclaimed.

"Caroline what is this nonsense?" Elijah demanded softly.

"My-My parents got a job offer in America. We leave two Fridays away" Caroline muttered, tears threatening to fall down her face.

"No" Niklaus dead panned. he looked around for assurance, " You can't leave Clovelly"

At that Niklaus stormed back to his house, unable to control his tears as they streamed down his face. He was breathing heavily.

Elijah looked after his brother debating whether or not he should follow after him. His looked at Caroline and brought her into a tight hug, never wanting to let her go.

"I'll see you later. You need to talk to him when he has calmed down" Elijah said, kissing her right cheek, while leaving to follow his brother.

Caroline turned her attention to the twins. She could see that they also had tears in their eyes. she brought them into a tight embrace.

"I don't want you to leave" Elena sniffed as she hugged Caroline.

"Same. you brought happiness to us four, especially Klaus. you've helped him through his tough life. He's not going to handle it" Katherine explained, looking into Caroline's blue eyes.

Caroline sniffled. She looked at the twins, sighing. "I don't want to leave either. But I have too. Maybe I can come back some time" Caroline shrugged.

"Make sure you do!" Katherine ordered, pointing a finger at her friend.

Klaus placed his head into his hands as he sat at his drawing table. he had an object in front of him, it was a sketch pad.

Stretch pad of Him and Caroline. Some pictures have Elijah, Katherine and Elena in them. Most are of him and the blonde girl.

There was a silent knock at the door.

"Mother, I'm fine" Klaus called, his voice croaked a little.

"Wrong person" came Elijah's voice. Elijah entered Klaus' room and stood near his brother.

Elijah smiled at what Klaus hand on the table. Elijah picked the pad up and skimmed through, laughing at several photos.

"Ah, I can remember the days we took these." Elijah's voice was distant. "They were great times. She always put a smile on our face even though a situation is bad"

"Too bad she is leaving me" Klaus grumbled.

Elijah sighed. "She isn't leaving just you Niklaus" Elijah busted, "She is leaving me, Elena and Kat. We are all upset"

"Still"

"Oh Niklaus, it isn't her fault that she has to go with her parents to America" Elijah said, hoping to ease His brothers tension.

"But I need her. She's my best friend" klaus gulped down a nervous lump in his throat, "I think I love her 'lijah"

"If you love something, let it go" Elijah smiled, "If it comes back, it's meant to be yours. I love her too Niklaus. She will always be the girl who helped us through tough times"

Klaus has tears rolling down his face, "I'm gonna miss her brother"

Elijah brought his brother into a hug. Klaus instinctively wrapped his arms around Elijah's waist, holding him close.

"So am I brother" Elijah whispered.
