Chapter sixteen

I woke up in a dark room.
"Where am I?" I asked to myself.
I tried to swim away but I was locked to the wall.
"FUDGE" I scream out.
I try to break free but it doesn't budge.
"Hello?" a tiny voice says.
I look over and see a around two year old mermaid.
She has a sparkly pink tail and long blonde hair.
"I want my mommy" she says and I can't help but feel bad.
"I want to know what's going on" I mumble.
Before the little girl could say anything, someone burst in from the window.
It was a mermaid my age.
"If you guys don't come now, you might get killed".
The little girl whimpered.
"We're locked" I say.
"Oh right" she says, swimming in and unlocking our cells with some key she brought.
"Come on" she says.
"Wait..I can't swim well" the little girl says.
A lump forms in my throat.
I tell her to sit on my back and grab onto my hair.
The girl waved her hand for me to follow her.
So I did.
"Can I ask where are we going?" I say.
"To the kingdom".
I stop.
"No way! They're the ones who.."
"Not that one. MY kingdom" she says, smirking.
"There is more then one kingdom?" I ask dumbly.
"Yeah! Everyone knows that unless" she trails off on the word 'unless'.
"I used to be half mermaid half human. Now I'm full mermaid" I say.
"Oh" she says. We have slowed down now. Guessing we are close.
And soon enough, I spot buildings. But these ones are not as big and fancy. More modern. The type of buildings I like.
"Listen. You have to blend in with us. I am the princess and when I heard about your village, I felt bad and snuck out to see. When I saw you, I wanted to save you".
I felt bad because I would never do that.
"Oh. Thanks anyways" I say.
"What do you mean by blend in?" I ask.
Then I notice it. They have shells all over their tails.
"Nevermind".
"Just..here" she said, picking up seashells and sticking them on my tail.
She smiled, but her smile faded.
"Um.." she said.
"What's wrong?".
"The little girl is gone".
I felt my back and sure enough she was gone.
My heart sank.
"I'm so.." she started.
"Let's just go" I mumble.
"Okay" she says and stars to turn around.
"My name is Gina by the way" she says.
"I'm Hailey" I say.
We start swimming again.
We finally reach gates. When Gina reaches the gate, it opens.
Way more protection then the old village.
"So what do we do now?" I ask, once inside the village.
"We look for your family".
