Katherine Burnett’s ears were filled with the sounds of students bustling past her, the sounds of locker doors slamming, and people shouting to each other. “Emma,” She called in relief finally seeing her blonde haired friend by her locker. She quickly maneuvered her way through the crowd and toward her friend.
“I’ve been waiting.” Emma said as soon as Katherine reached her, “it’s about time.” Katherine felt her elated mood crash and she stared at the floor.
“Sorry, Emma, Mr. Jenkins held my entire class back and. . .” Katherine trailed off knowing the Emma had zoned out.
“Yeah, whatever, Katherine,” Emma said making Katherine’s name sound like a dirty thing, “Just go hang out in the library with your other friends. Oh right you don’t have any.” Emma finished with scorn, Katherine felt her cheeks flush a deep red and she muttered, okay and hurried away with tears stinging at the back of her eyes.
Katherine quickly ran to the girl’s bathroom and locked herself in a stall holding back tears. She hurriedly flipped open her phone to check the time, 11:00 a.m. another four and half hours or so. She couldn’t take that much longer, I’m so tired she thought leaning against the stall wall. Katherine began to rub her temples as a pounding headache began.
“Screw going to my next classes I think I’ll skip the rest of the day.” Katherine muttered beneath her breath and moved out of the stall, she glanced toward the mirror and froze; she stepped closer to the mirror studying her features.
Dark blue eyes the color of the stormy Atlantic ocean stared out of a pale face. High dark arching eyebrows, a small rounded nose, and pale pink lips. Curly dark hair fell in shoulder high waves; her expression was strained but even stressed she was a beauty. She stood lightly like she was about to take off flying any moment, she had a slim willowy figure, she knew she was beautiful and that was why the girls here where so mean. Because Katherine was prettier than them to them it was a gift to be beautiful to her it was a curse.
Katherine tore her eyes from her image and headed out of the bathroom and down the hall. She began to move faster than faster till she was running she felt as if she was being chased, she rounded the corner and rammed into someone. The force of it threw them both to the ground, Katherine felt a sharp pain at her ankle and tears come to her eyes when she tried to stand. “God I’m sorry.” Katherine looked up at the sound of the voice and felt her response stick in her throat. She could only think god he is cute. Black hair flopped in his brown eyes and she couldn’t help notice how gentle they looked; his face was chiseled and handsome. He offered her a hand and she shook herself out of her daze and took it, she was amazed by the strength in it.
“Sorry, I’m Aaron.” The guy called Aaron said again and shoved his hands into his pockets seeming uncomfortable.
Katherine who had a funny feeling that her ankle was broken or at least sprained leaned against the wall. “Are you okay?” Aaron asked shifting from foot to foot.
“Um, I think my ankle is sprained.” Katherine admitted giving a grimace of pain.
“Oh,” Aaron blurted out and Katherine saw the faintest tinge of pink on his cheeks.
“It’s okay, I was running, but if you don’t mind could you help me to the nurse?” Katherine felt her cheeks heat again before he nodded and slipped an arm around her. His touch sent shockwaves through her she started then nearly fell; she blushed again deeper this time.
