An e-mail popped up on Miss Bustier's computer screen in the middle of her lesson. She read it whilst the students wrote down their notes.
"Marinette, you've been asked for by the Principle. Please take your possessions." Miss Bustier smiled, directing her to the door. Marinette collected her things, earning a lot of whispers from the class. Was she in trouble? What did she do wrong?
Marinette knocked on the Principle's door, earning a faded "Come in!". She opened the door and saw her mum sat on one of the chairs, looking as if she was broken in half. (AN: Marco?)
"Uh...Mum? What's wrong...?" Marinette's voice shook, she was confused and worried about what was happening.
Sabine stood up from her chair and walked towards her daughter. "I'm taking you to the hospital," she paused, "Something has happened to your father." She looked down to her fiddling fingers.
"Oh...Okay.." Marinette and her mother exited the school, but she walked past her class and managed to catch the attention of a certain blonde boy, he looked through the door window and was curious as to why Marinette looked sad all of a sudden.
Around twenty minutes later, Marinette and Sabine rushed into the hospital and to the front desk. "Tom Dupain's wife and daughter!" Sabine practically yelled, and the lady at registration nodded.
"Room 205." The nurse at the desk got given many thanks, and Marinette and Sabine ran off to the location. As soon as they found the door, the doctor walked out.
"Are you Sabine and Marinette Dupain-Cheng?" He asked.
"Yes, I am his wife, this is his daughter." Sabine informed, "What's the matter with him?" worry filling her eyes.
"I'm afraid it's bad news. I'd sit down if I were you." The two females sat down on the chairs outside room 205. The doctor inhaled strongly, preparing himself. "I'm afraid that for quite some time now, Tom has had terrible lung cancer. It was not noticeable until now. We don't know how long he has left. He could have a year, 6 months...or possibly, one month." Sabine gasped in shocked, and Marinette's bottom-lip quivered to form a pout.
"I-I can't believe this..." Sabine's bottom waterline started to fill with tears, but she wanted to stay strong. So did Marinette.
"I'll leave you two alone for a while." The doctor walked down the hallway. "Oh, feel free to enter. Just not for too long and try not to crowd him." The doctor turned, then continued to walk.
Sabine and Marinette walked into the hospital room. Marinette was horrified to see her Father sitting in a hospital bed, although he looked fine.
"Papa! Are you alright?" Marinette knew the answer was no, but she cared for her Father. Tom patted the top of her head and smiled.
"I'm sure I can get over this!" He chuckled. Sabine walked over to Tom, holding his hand and not wanting to let go. The family had a big group hug.
Although, I guess what Tom said was a lie.
One Month later exactly, there was a new tombstone. A stone that had the words 'R.I.P Tom Dupain' carved into it. When that day came, that's when Marinette's world went from high to low.
