Taming Life

Prologue: Jane Arminio

I'd always wondered what it would be like to live a completely normal life, void of my father's ruthless behavior, void of living in fear of getting busted along with my family by law enforcement officials, void of living holed up inside a house due to the fact that my father --Angelo Arminio-- was marked for death by his enemies, and therefore had I gone outside without protection, I would supposedly be used to get to him. However, as the years flew by, the chances of me accomplishing my goals seemed more impossible -- until I received my diploma at the age of eighteen.

It'd taken years to convince my father to let me go to school, and even when I had managed to pursue him into allowing me to study, it was only home school. But it was enough for me to work at my hardest to graduate with a 4.0, seeing as what that resembled to me was a pass to freedom, a pass to go to college and escape the dangerous, constantly on edge life that I had grown familiar with -- the only life I'd ever known.

And so as I held the acceptance letter to Princeton University in hand, I saw it as my official pass to starting a brand new life where I could live like a normal, average person, without having to live in fear of getting punished for my father's ruthless lifestyle. And if there was one thing that I was determined to do, it was to finish college and move far away from my father's mafia, to a place where I wasn't Jane Arminio the daughter of one of the most wanted Italian mafioso's, but Jane Arminio, the smart, successful woman I strived to be -- even if that meant leaving behind Ryder Lewis, the person who I believed I loved, regardless of his reckless choices and the fact that he was part of my father's gang.
