Chapter 14 ~ Date? ~ Jane

My fingers lingered over the screen of my phone as I stared at the text from Bryson, debating whether or not to take his invitation and go out with him, my mind inevitably wondering off to the fact that I was in a relationship and there were many complications in the way of me getting involved with another guy. However for some reason, despite me knowing it was the wrong decision, I found myself agreeing, desperately wanting to go; wanting to distract myself with him.

Standing up from my bed, I moved toward the small closet on my side of the room, my eyes instantly falling upon the simple black tank top with a white skull on it, pairing it with black ripped shorts and my usual leather jacket before proceeding to get ready.

"Where are you going?" Lindsay wondered aloud from her bed several moments later, her gaze drifting from her textbook to me.

"Library with Bryson." I continued carefully applying my eyeliner as I answered her, brushing through my straightened locks of dark hair afterwards.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see her eyes narrow, but she simply resumed her studying, evidently deciding to keep whatever swirled inside her mind to herself.

Moments later, just as I was putting on my combat boots, a loud knock echoed throughout the small room, my eyebrows pulling together in confusion. The first thought to cross my mind had been that the person outside the door was Bryson, but I quickly eliminated the suggestion, considering the fact that I'd told him I would meet him out front -- which only left me to debate whether I should open or not, seeing as judging by the events that'd been occurring, someone stopping by our dorm for a visit was no longer a simple action, but a threatening one instead.

But Lindsay didn't allow me to think it over even once before she was making her way toward the door, opening it to reveal none other than Jace leaning against the frame, the conclusion that she'd been expecting his arrival almost immediately settling inside my brain.

"Hey, cupcake," Jace greeted Lindsay with an inevitable smirk across his lips, though it soon fell off his face the second his eyes fell on my frame, almost as if he'd remembered something. "I actually didn't expect you to be here, but I 'needa talk to you about something, and nows perfect since Ryder isn't here." As soon as the words escaped his mouth, Lindsay's eyes widened slightly, giving away the fact that she knew exactly what he was talking about -- and I had a feeling that I knew too, though due to not wanting it to be true, I attempted to push it away.

I slung my book bag over my shoulder, tossing Jace a blank look. "Well I bet it can wait. I have to go."

"Actually, it can't." He blocked my path the moment I tried slipping past him in a failed attempt to get to the door, a frustrated groan escaping my lips before I could stop it. "I know you're pregnant."

I should have been surprised, but from the minute he'd walked into the room, his actions allowed for me to know that he was aware of something; regardless of the fact that I initially had doubts.

My gaze instinctively snapped to my roommate, betrayal swirling inside my body. "How could you? I told you not to tell them!" I couldn't help the accusation that seeped into my tone as I spoke to her, eyes peering into hers with anger.

"Lindsay didn't tell me, Jane, so calm your tits," He defended her, my brows then furrowing as I attempted to analyze how he found out. "Oh, come on, don't act so confused. You were obviously having symptoms. . .You have to tell Ryder."

My eyes widened upon hearing his last sentence, the fear of him telling on me lingering inside the pit of my stomach, making my heart thud faster than what could be considered normal due to the panic that shot through me. "I don't have to do anything," I muttered, keeping my composure proving to be harder than I'd expected. "Just leave me alone and keep your mouth shut, Jace. Its not your business to tell. I'll talk to him when I'm ready."
