"Katie!" My mum called from downstairs. "Come here."
I let out a groan and slowly walked down the stairs.
"Yes?" I asked.
"I want you to go down to the Mendes's house and ask if they can make it to dinner tonight or tomorrow."
"Why can't you just call them?" I whined.
"I'm not calling them because you haven't been out all day and you need some fresh air." She answered sternly.
"Okay fine. I'll be back in a while." I said, rolling my eyes.
I put on my runners and started walking to the Mendes's house.
When I got there I realized that their car wasn't in the driveway. I internally groaned, hoping that I hadn't just wasted time and energy walking here. I knocked on the door and about a minute later Shawn walked out.
"Hey Shawn. Are your parents there?"
"No, not at the minute but I can tell them that you were looking for them." He replied, leaning against the door frame.
"Could you ask if they want to come over for dinner today or tomorrow? Tell them to call my mum with whatever day suits them."
"Today sounds good to me but I'll ask them when they get back." He replied, now standing up straight.
"Okay, I'll probably see you later then."
I started walking down the driveway, tripping over a rock that I hadn't noticed was there. I turned my head to see Shawn trying not to laugh. I didn't say anything and continued to walk back to my house.
As soon as I opened the front door my mum asked which day they were coming over.
"They were gone out but Shawn was there and said that today sounds good but he'll have to ask them when they get back." I replied, taking my shoes off.
"That's good. Either today or tomorrow is going to be a very important day for us all."
"Why?" I asked, confused.
"You'll just have to wait and see."
