Katie shyly walked into the house, murmuring a 'Thank you' as she went by me. I closed the door then turned around to face her.

"S-so, should I bring my bag up to the spare room?" She asked, a slight nervousness in her voice.

"Uh the spare room isn't really a spare room anymore." I answered. "It has all my guitars, and my piano and mics and stuff."

"Oh that's fine. I'll just sleep on the couch."

She walked into the living room and placed her bag beside the couch.

"I'm not letting you sleep on the couch." I stood against the door frame with my arms crossed, looking at her with a smile. "You can can sleep in my bed and I'll sleep on the couch."

She was about to reply, but my mum shouted from upstairs.

"Shawn!? Is that Katie?" She asked.

"Yeah, she's gonna stay here for the night."

I heard her start to walk down the stairs and as soon as she saw Katie, a big smile formed on her face.

"Oh Katie, I'm glad you're going to stay for the night. Make yourself at home and maybe get to know Shawn a bit more!!" She spoke excitedly

"Oh, um, o-okay" She nervously answered.

Why is she so nervous? We've know each other for eighteen years...

"So, Katie, you can bring your stuff up to my room now. I'll show you where you can put your bag." I motioned for her to follow me and she silently walked behind me up to my room.

"If you don't mind me asking, why are you so nervous?" I turned my head to ask her.

"Uh, well, it's really just because it's kinda awkward that we're all of a sudden getting married with no notice."

I understood that, an arranged marriage isn't really an every day occurrence now a days, but it didn't have to make anything awkward between us.

"That doesn't have to make it awkward for us." I answered, opening my bedroom door.

"I know, but I can't help it, I feel a little awkward knowing that we're probably going to be forced to have kids, and you know what that means...." She trailed off, not wanting to explain it.

"Sex?" I questioned

"Y-yeah." She stuttered her response. "I just don't know if I'd be comfortable with that so soon."

She put her bag at the end of my bed, then sat down on the blue bean bag chair that was in the corner of the room.

"Hey, that's okay, stop overthinking everything, all of that will be a long time away." I soothed her.

"Do we really have to get married though? We didn't even have a say in what was happening. There wasn't even a proposal like any normal couple would have."

"I know, but if it makes you feel any better I could propose in a few months." I smiled and she let out a laugh.

"Well I suppose, but make it a surprise." She giggled.

Neither of us said anything for a while then. We just sat there enjoying each other's company like we used to do, under tables at parties while our parents were having fun and getting drunk.

I'm surprised we didn't really stay close friends. I mean nothing ever really happened between us...we kind of just drifted away.

"So, I know your mum did say that I should get to know you but I'm tired out from crying earlier so I'm gonna go to sleep now." She laughed, getting up from her seat.

"Wait, you were crying earlier?" I asked, concerned as to why she was crying.

"Ah shit, sorry, I wasn't supposed to let that slip." She replied. "It was really just being told that we were getting married and you storming out. I thought I was going to have a crappy husband that didn't want anything to do with me but after our little talk here I think the marriage could possibly turn out okay."

"I'm sorry about that, it was just a big surprise and I didn't know how to handle it." I sighed.

Well, really I was just annoyed that my parents hadn't told me before, but I'm being mostly truthful to her right now.

"Well, goodnight Katie." I said, walking towards the door.

"Night, Shawn."

I closed the door and walked downstairs to where my mum and dad were watching the TV.

"How's it going with Katie?" My dad asked as I sat down on the couch

"Well, after dinner in her house when I stormed off I kind of made her cry and I feel really bad about that, but upstairs after we talked for a while she said that she thinks that the marriage could possibly work out."

"That's good, son. You must have a lot more charm than we thought." He chuckled

"It seems like that." I laughed.

For a while I just watched the TV with them and got tired after a while. I moved around on the couch a bit trying to get comfortable and when I did I dozed off. My dad then woke me up a while later when they were going to bed.

"Go on and sleep upstairs in Aaliyah's bed for tonight but don't tell her when she comes back tomorrow." He said.

"Okay, I will." I yawned.

I went upstairs to Aaliyah's room and heard my dad set the house alarm. I turned the lights off and quickly got under the cozy duvet.

After about a minute I drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
