After a moment of silence Shawn jumped out of the car and walked over to my door. He opened it and put his hand out for me to take again. I placed my hand in his and he laced our fingers together.
Since we are getting married I thought it would be best to act like I didn't hate the idea of it all. Shawn looked down at me with a smile and I returned the friendly gesture. We walked up the driveway and to the front door. I was actually kind of nervous to walk inside, I mean this was the house that I'd be starting the rest of my life in.
Shawn reached into his back pocket and pulled out the key to the front door. He unlocked it , his other hand still holding mine and pushed it open. Before I could step inside the house Shawn bent down a bit and picked me up bridal style. I gasped as I wasn't expecting it, then let out a quiet giggle. I wrapped one arm around the back of Shawn's neck so I wouldn't fall, even though I was sure he wouldn't drop me.
He walked into the house and lightly kicked the door shut. He spun me around and then gently put me down. Maybe I could get used to this.
"I'll be right back. I'm just going to help the men from the moving truck bring in all our things." Shawn spoke and I nodded at him.
He opened the door again and quickly jogged outside. Since I was left by myself for the moment I decided to have a quick look around the house.
I walked into the living room to see a comfortable looking L shaped grey sofa and in front of it was a small white coffee table. On the wall in front of them was a medium sized TV which actually looked huge because of the small size of the room. There was also a few shelves on the walls where picture frames or books could possibly go in the future. Then I walked into the kitchen and took a quick glance to see if it was big enough to have space for at least two people moving around in it, which it did. It was a nice cream colour and had an island in the middle of it.
There was also a big bathroom ,which had shiny black tiles on the floor and enough press space to fit toiletries into and an utility room which had a washing machine and a dryer along with other household cleaning supplies.
Then came the part I was dreading to look at, the upstairs part of the house, where I would be sleeping in the same bed as Shawn.
I slowly walked up the stairs. When I got to the top I saw a small corridor which had five doors, two on either side and a bigger door at the end.
I walked into the first room on the right and noticed an extremely cozy double bed against the wall, in the middle of the room. There was a wardrobe on either side of the bed and it was also joined together over the bed. There were drawers on the other side of the room and a door which I assumed lead to an ensuite. I closed the door behind me and heard someone coming up the stairs. I turned around and saw Shawn holding a box, a shirt sleeve hanging out of it.
"Which room is ours?" Shawn asked, shifting the cardboard box in his arms.
"Right beside you." I smiled, pointing towards the door I had just closed.
I walked back over to it and opened the door for Shawn. He mumbled a 'Thank you' while walking through the door. I carried on giving myself a little tour of the house by walking to the room opposite Shawn and I's.
I opened the door and stumbled backwards in shock, letting a somewhat loud gasp escape my lips. Shawn came running out of our room when he heard the sound of my back hitting the wall and sliding down to the floor.
I can't do this. I'm not ready. I can't do this. I'm not ready.
"Shit, Katie what happened? Are you okay?" Shawn asked, panic evident in his voice.
"Look at the room." I whispered, the tears finally starting to fall.
Shawn stood up and peeked his head into the room, mumbling a 'fuck' under his breath. He quickly closed the door and sat down beside me. He wiped my tears with the pad of his thumb and I slightly flinched away from him. He looked down at me, hurt showing in his eyes then turned away for a second.
"I-I really can't do this, Shawn. They have the nursery s-set up already. T-there's two cribs in there. They're expecting at l-least two kids. I'm not ready for this." I rambled, having trouble breathing.
"Katie, calm down. Breathe. It's okay. Just breathe." He soothed, rubbing his hand gently on my arm.
"I-I-It's not okay." I whispered, starting to shake.
"Shit. Are you having a panic attack? Have you had one before?" Shawn panicked, frantically trying to think of ways to stop it.
"I d-don't know." I tried taking deep breaths but it wasn't working, I couldn't get enough air into my lungs.
"You're going to hate me for this." Shawn mumbled, sitting up from the wall and turning to face me.
He placed his right hand on my left cheek and slowly leaned in. He gently placed his lips to mine and I slowly calmed down. When he felt that I had calmed down quite a bit he pulled away from the kiss.
"Sorry." He mumbled "I heard it helps with panic attacks."
There was an awkward silence for a moment. I just sat there wrapping my mind around the nursery, which was fully prepared for two children with room for more, and catching my breath.
"Are you okay? Do you need anything?" He whispered
"Do you have chocolate?" I asked, making Shawn smile.
"I have a bar in my car if you want it. It's only been there since yesterday." I nodded, signalling that the bar would be fine.
"Okay I'll be back in a minute. Do you want to lie down on the bed?"
"Yes please." I replied, trying to stand myself up.
Shawn gently grabbed a hold of my arm and steadied me. He walked with me into our room and let me hop under the covers.
"One minute." He said, walking out the door.
I didn't even have time to think because before a minute was even up, Shawn was back in the room handing me my favourite bar of chocolate. I sat up, slightly excited, and took the bar from him.
"Thank you, Shawn."
"Are you sure you're okay though? You don't have asthma or anything?" He asked, still concerned.
"No Shawn. I'm fine." I opened the wrapper before adding "Now you go and help those men down there bring in everything."
"Aye aye, Captain. Whatever you say." He chuckled, walking out of the room.
Then I was left to my own thoughts circling around in my head over and over again:
Shawn had finally kissed me.
