We walked back to our table and sat down in silence. I looked at Kenzie and winked while she rolled her eyes and tried to hide her smile. I looked at Johnson who quickly turned away as I caught him eyeballing me. Wow Jack.
The bell rang and we all stood up walking our separate ways. Gilinsky yelled my name and I turned around only to see him give me a thumbs up and a wink that was cringeworthy. E for effort.
I was so nervous as I walked into the science room. I sat down and saw my phone blowing up with texts from Kenzie. No surprise.
M= Melanie
K: is he there yet?
M: no he's usually late
K: pls talk to him
M: why though I already told you he likes Emily
K: no remember she's dating Cameron now
M: argh alright fineeeee
M: I gtg he's here
K: ;)
M: STOP IT KENZ
I put my phone down and watched Jack enter the room. Damn he looked hot today. I mean when does he not. I crossed my fingers and prayed that he wouldn't sit next to me. My prayers weren't answered. He sat next to me and I could feel him looking at me. I turned to face him and he quickly looked away. Again! Finally our teacher walked in.
"Alright class today we're going to be doing a lab and you'll work with the person sitting next to you."
Great. Guess who sits next to me? Yea that's right, dreamy Johnson. We both turned to each other and I could feel my cheeks turning red.
"So I heard you like me," he mumbled and looked down and played with his thumbs.
"What?" I could hear him but I wanted him to say it again.
"I heard you like me," he said louder and stared at me making me sort of uncomfortable. "Is that true?"
"Idk I mean not really," I felt my whole face getting hot.
"You sure?" He started to move closer to me as I looked away from him making sure he didn't see my face.
"Um yea."
"Well just so you know I'm aware that while you talked to Gilinsky you kept looking at me and started blushing, so don't lie to me cause I can get him to tell me anything," he was now getting really close to me and I had no idea what to say.
"I never lie," I finally had the courage to look at him. I lied right through my teeth and I know he doesn't believe me but he didn't say anything about it so I guess he doesn't really care.
"Well we should get started," he got up and went to get the materials for the lab.
I just sat there thinking how stupid I was at this very moment. I should've just told him the truth and get it over with but noooo I had to do this the hard way.
The rest of the period wasn't even that bad. It wasn't even that awkward. Jack and I kept a good conversation going as we worked. He seemed to actually enjoy talking to me which made me feel a little more comfortable around him. Maybe I even had the courage to tell him that I like him. I was about to speak up but the bell rang and we had to clean up our table areas. As I walked out of class I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and it was of course Jack.
"Hey Mel, we should talk more often," he said shyly.
"Yea I'd like that," I smiled and turned away heading to my next class. I hope we have science again tomorrow.
