Long Way Down

Chapter 5

I sat there, wide eyed, mouth hanging open, trying to remember how to breathe.

Apparently Sky was in the same boat I was in since I didn't hear any response from her either.

"Erm ... if it is then I can find another seat", he said with a smile.

I shook my head to snap out of it and opened my mouth to reply when someone beat me to it.

"Yes, it is taken. Now you can leave."

I turn to see who had the audacity to say that but almost choked. Zak.

What. The. Jam?!?

What is he doing? Why is he even here? He had absolutely no right to say what he said. Mystery boy looked at him with a raised eyebrow not looking the least bit affected by the glare Zak was giving him. Wow, this boy has .... apples.

"Really? Cause I don't see anybody sitting here", was his smooth reply.

He turned and looked at me with a smile and quickly, almost gracefully, took the seat next to mine while draping his arm on the back of my seat. He looked at Zak and smirked when he saw that he was almost shaking with anger.

Woah .... What the ....

What is happening right now? I don't even think this is real. Yep, that's got to be it. It's just a dream that's all. Nothing to worry about. Everything is just peachy.

"Alex, your mom wants you home", Zak said to me.
Wow. He can actually talk to me decently? Who would of thought ...

I fish out my phone while checking my notifications and frown. She didn't send me any messages. She would of sent me a message or something.

"No, she doesn't", I say to him, barely looking him in the eye.

He curls his palms into fists and closes his eye's as he tries to calm down and control his anger.

I don't get it. What is he so angry about? Shouldn't he be with his girlfriend who is sitting at the counter watching this whole ordeal with a hard glare.

"Yes, she does. Now let's go", he says.

Okay, now I'm getting pissed off. He can't just come in here, lie to me, and tell me what to do! And who does he think he is to just assume that I'm going to go with him? I'm not that desperate. I do have my pride and well a little bit of my dignity left.

"No, she does not", I grit out. "If she needed me then she would of called or texted. And she most definitely did not send you of all people to 'get' me", I finish.

He looks taken aback for a second but covers it up and narrows his eye's at me.

"Do you really want to take that chance, Alexis?"

What is up with him? And why do I find the way he says my name so incredibly sexy right now?

Oh my gosh, something's really wrong with me. He is pissing me off and I'm finding him sexy?!?

What has the world come to?

He takes a step towards me as if to prove a point and when he sees the hesitance in my eyes a small smirk tugs at his lips. Those lips. Those incredibly pink, soft, luscious lips that look like it would be the death of me. It probably would.

"What game are you playing at, Rider?", I mumble quietly.

"No game", was his reply.

Wait, he heard that? Wha- How the heck did he hear that? I said it so quietly that only a vampire would hear it. Unless he is a vampire ... Nah.
But you never know.

"What do you want from me? Why are you even talking to me? Shouldn't you be with your little girlfriend over there?", I ask while putting emphasis on 'girlfriend'.

He turns to look at her and when their eyes meet she puts on a neutral look like she wasn't just trying to plan my murder. I roll my eyes at her. I mean, who is she trying to fool?

When he turns back to me a frown is etched on his face. Huh, maybe he's not as glad to see her ...?

"Yeah, she doesn't look that glad to be here. Maybe you should just go. And take her with. I'm sure you have some catching up to do, right?", I ask referring to there horrific lip-locking in school.

Just thinking about it makes my heart clench in pain. But you know what? I'm not going to be like this. This sad, pathetic girl waiting for a boy who is never going to return. I'm done. He made his decision. Now it's time to make mine. I guess .... maybe they really are perfect together. And ... maybe now I need to go find my fairytale story.

I see it now. We weren't meant to be. Our worlds just didn't collide well. We are just too different. And, he made his choice a long time ago.

And I'm okay with that now.
