Long Way Down

Chapter 1

"Alex!", Skylar says trying to get my attention.

"Huh? What?", I ask looking at my best friend.

She turns to see what I was staring at and when her eyes land on Zak her face falls and her mouth is turned into a huge frown.

"Alexis", she sighs.

Uh-oh. She used my full first name, I think I'm in trouble now. I cringe away from the dissappoinment that is clear on her face and look down.

"Alex", she sighs again making me look up at her.

"You've got to get over him", she says.

"What? I don't like him. He's an ass and besides, he has a girlfriend. A girlfriend whose a total bitch, by the way", I say and just as I say that Lee comes into view and practically smashes her mouth against Zak's.

I cringe at the sight, only Lee can make kissing look painful.

Sky must of seen how uncomfortable I was getting so she tugged on my arm.

"Hey, let's get to class before we're late", she says.

I nod with a slight frown and pout present on my face.

"How about after school we go grab some McFlurries, yeah?", she asks trying to cheer me up. And this is why every girl needs their own Skylar Heart.

We enter our English class and luckily for me we don't have assigned seats so I head to sit at the very back corner along with Sky sitting next to me.

"Hey, do me a favour?", she asks.

"Okay?", I answer but it came out more like a question.

"Smile", she states simply.

"What?", I ask.

"I said smile, you idiot."

"Why?"

"Because you shouldn't be frowning over some douche that doesn't deserve even half of your time. Your smile is beautiful and deserves to be shared with the world", she says. I give her a small smile because she is right after all.

"There you go, sunshine", she says smugly. My smile grew and I was about to reply to her smart-ass comment when a voice stopped me.

"Oh look, if it isn't the ugly step-sisters", Lee says. I frown while Zak stands next to her smirking at her remark.

"Oh look! If it isn't the bastard and the bitch", Sky says and I almost laugh. Lee glares at her while Zak growls.

"B plus B for life, right. Honestly I thought it would of taken you two longer to get here since your'll were practically having it all out by the lockers", Sky continues and I have to cough to stop myself from laughing. Even though it hurts like a bitch to hear that. But doesn't the truth always hurt?

"You better shut your mouth before I do it for you", Zak sneers.

"Leave her alone. You started it", I say trying to defend my best friend. All three pairs of eyes snap to me with surprise in them but it disappears as quickly as it came.

"Oh, so she talks", Zak says. I shrink back into my seat and gaze at the floor. Why am I such a coward at times? Because you were born like that. My inner self says. Yeah, I can be really mean to myself sometimes.

"Looks like cats got her tongue now. C'mon babe, I don't want to waste my time with these losers", Lee says and grabs Zak's arm and pulls him to the seats across the classroom.

"They're such ass wipes", Sky says and I giggle. Only Sky can make me laugh when I feel like my world is crumbling down.

Almost as if she heard us, Lee turns and glares daggers at me but its soon replaced with a smirk and before I can even scream 'oh fudge' she attaches her lips with Zak's. Everyone knows about my crush on Zak. I think even Zak knows it, not like he'll do anything about it. He's too busy sucking face with that slut!

"Mr Rider and Miss Andrew, please find your own time to do that", the teacher, Mrs Jensen says to the two idiots with a sigh.

"Oh trust me, we will", Zak says with a smirk.

Well this is going to be one long ass day ...
