The Safe House

After 10 more minutes of sneaking around we finally arrived at the supposed 'safe house', well hotel. It was a fairly small hotel with broken and boarded up windows. Greenery was beginning to grow through the cracks in the bloody pavement directly outside.
"Not too shabby"I joked to Xia. She looked at me, no emotion filling her face. What was up with her?
"How do we get in?"Caleb made a good point, the main entrance door was heavily boarded up too.
"There"Leon pointed to a rusty ladder on the side of the building which seemed to lead up to the roof.
"Oh crap"I thought to myself, don't get me wrong it was only three stories high but I have an intense fear of heights no matter how tall. Xia began clambering up the ladder first, followed by Poppy, Caleb and then eventually me, Leon was nice enough to let us go first. All of a sudden Xia looked down and screamed at Leon.
"LEON WATCH OUT!" All of us immediately turned our heads to look down whilst climbing which made me feel sick. One of the zombies latched on to Leon, I gasped in fright. Xia quickly ascended to the top and watched over the edge in panic. Leon couldn't reach for his gun on his back, he was too busy struggling to keep the thing away.
"LEON"she screamed again, the worry filled her voice. Leon was wrestling the zombie, who kept trying to bite him.
"No no no"Xia was more panicky then ever, she grabbed her knife and threw it towards the ground where the zombie was, uncertain whether it would hit Leon or not.
"Nice Shot"Leon shouted as the Knife flew directly into the zombies head. He hurriedly climbed to the top because there was a cluster of them nearby now.
"DONT DO THAT"Xia hugged him as soon as he reached the roof. Tears seemed to fill her eyes which made them sparkle. He smiled at her with the most loving smile I had ever seen before.
"We better go"Xia pushed him away and returned back to her moody self.
"Aaah"Poppy fell to the floor and gripped her ankle.
"Poppy?..."Caleb crouched down beside her. "What's wrong?"
She did nothing but grit her teeth, the pain was too powerful to speak.
"Poppy....wha-what's happening?"I feared the answer.
"Oh no"Xias eyes widened. She approached Poppy and tore off the bottom half of her trouser leg. We were all taken back with horror. Her ankle was all bumpy and bloody and a deep bite mark was engraved into her flesh. Leon immediately pulled his gun out and aimed it at Poppy's forehead.
"NO" Caleb stood in front blocking her from any harm.
"MOVE" Xia shouted firmly
"STOP" I screeched at them.
"SHES GOING TO TURN SOON" Leon exclaimed,"AND THEN SHES GOING TO KILL ALL OF US".
"No no she might not" I pleaded even though I knew the truth.
"AAAAHH" Poppy shrieked again.
"Poppy it's okay Emily and I are here"Caleb said clutching her warm sweaty hand sternly.
"When did this happen?"I asked Poppy.
"When - when we were climbing the gates and the - the thing grabbed my leg" She stuttered through gritted teeth. Her eyes slowly began to shut.
'No Poppy stay with me please stay with me' Caleb bawled. Tears trickled down his cheeks. I grabbed Caleb's shoulder and slowly pulled him back to his feet.
'We can end it, before she turns' Leon calmly said. Without thinking I nodded my head, she had already suffered enough.
'Follow me' Caleb's footsteps trembled and his whole body shook as we followed Xia through the door and down the wooden staircase.
*BANG*
A loud gunshot was heard.
My eyes filled with tears now too...Po- Poppy was gone.
