Dan's POV"Okay, so we're looking for a blue neon flash?" Matthias asked. "You do realize that a public sighting of the Knight only occurs once every month at the most, and only at night? Never had the Knight been seen at day this close to-" Phoenix is cut off by a blue neon flash whizzing by inches from our standpoint. Matthias smiles crazily. "You were saying?" Enigma is smirking and Phoenix is agape. I grin. "We found our flash."
"Where was she heading?" Phoenix asks. I pull out my laptop. "This," I say, pulling up a city map, "Is a map of the city. Here we are now." I say, pointing to our location. "She was heading slightly northeast. Along here." I trace my finger along the path. "Assuming she continued along that path," Enigma continues. "She'd head towards the city gates," Phoenix finishes. "Out into the wasteland." "Why would she go their?" Matthias asks. "Maybe she needs to go somewhere will no one will be." "She's has a secret identity that she doesn't want anyone to know..." "So when she wants to get back into civilian clothing," "She goes into the wasteland," "Where nobody goes" "Nobody will miss a blue-clad heroine walking into a building" "But nobody will follow her into the wasteland." "Let's go!"
"Are you sure this is legal?" I asked Enigma, who was occupied strapping a motorcycle helmet on. "Nope." She replied, popping the p. "Sounds good." Phoenix smiled. I jumped on the back of her motorcycle. "I hate these things." I muttered. I closed my eyes tight as Phoenix revved the engine. Soon we were taking of, us in front with Matthias and Enigma close behind, heading towards the city gates.
We followed the set of footprints, even though the were very light. After about ten minutes we came upon a small house. "A house?" Phoenix asked as we hopped off our bikes. "Why is it in the wasteland?" It was Matthias who had the answer. "Some people prefer the solitude. It's also a good place for a criminal to hide out." We shared glances. Criminal. "Or... It could be the Blue Knight's secret hideout!" Enigma said enthusiastically. Matthias pulled out his gun. "In any way, let's be prepared."
We approached the door quietly. Enigma met me and Phoenix borrow a knife, although I have no idea how she keeps all of those knives concealed. Matthias knocked on the door. "Hello?" He called. We all listened. About five seconds later, the door opened. A young adult stood their. She had blinding neon blue hair, made even more blinding by her slightly pale skin. In stark contrast were her black reflective sunglasses. In one hand she held a long metal rod. A cane. She's blind, I realized. "Hey, you're that girl I ran into on the street today!" Matthias exclaimed. "Hmmmm. I remember you hotshot." She replied crossly. "Excuse me, but what are you doing living in the wasteland? You'd have to be mad to live out here." I ask. She just quietly hummed. "There's a method to the madness. Out here I have peace and quiet." And no one here to watch, I silently added. No one here to watch you change outfits from the Knight to a blind girl. Wait, a blind girl? No way... I shrug off the Knight idea. "But you're bling, correct? Wouldn't it be dangerous to live out here alone?" She shrugged, but Enigma and Mathias shared a look. "Blind people aren't helpless." Before I could say anything else, Enigma stepped forward with a smile. "Sorry for the disruption." She apologized. I looked at her confused. Sure she wasn't the Knight, but something strange is going on. The girl just shrugged again. "No problem. Just keep Mr. 'I'm more important than anyone else' out of my sight. Actually, that wouldn't be hard. Just keep him far, far away from me." With that she closed the door.
"Why did you close the door?" I asked. She put her finger to her lips and motioned for us to follow her. Matthias did without hesitation, but me and Phoenix looked at each other, both equally confused. They led us away from the house, back to the motorbikes. "Somethings going on." Enigma finally said. I nodded. "Then why'd you let her go?" I asked. "Did you see the way she clenched her fist when you asked about being blind?" Matthias asked. I shook my head. "She's good at hiding it, but she gets angry when people hint at her being defenseless." "I think she's the Knight." Phoenix says. Matthias and I look at her incredulously, but Enigma is actually considering. "We already know she can run fast, and reports have shown her to have telekinesis. So what are the odds that she could have advanced senses as well?" Enigma asks. "Sooo..." I begin, thinking. "You're saying that her heightened senses could cancel out her blindness, or at least make it unnoticeable? I mean, studies have shown blind people have keener senses, but at this level?" A grin slowly forms in Matthias's face, a grin I clearly recognize. I inwardly sigh. He has a plan. A plan that will most likely result in trouble. "Only one way to find out."
