Chapter 4
"Wait. WHAT?!"
"Yes. We're living in a room. it has two beds. but it's one room. It's like those dorm things that they have at you-knee-verse-it-tee's or call-edges"
"Universities and Colleges. Two words, and they sound like what I said. Not at whatever you just said."
He mumbles under his breath and it sounds a lot like "Great. I'm living with a grammar freak"
" a) I heard that and b) yes you are. The biggest one out there too."
"God damnit"
"Aww! and I thought you loved me" I say feigning hurt by clutching a hand to my chest.
"No, Not you. Although yes, you being a grammar freak sucks too—Ow!" He says as I punch him in the arm
"You were saying?"
"Our address. It's in the worst corridor. I don't know why they'd put a woman in a corridor like thi—" he doesn't get to finish his sentence before I twist my fingers at my side and he's pinned up against the wall like David (my ability instructor) showed me. His feet are dangling about an inch off of the floor and he looks down at me with wide eyes."Not all women are weak Stefan." I say before relaxing my hand and turning around. I hear a thud behind me and I assume he's drop to the ground.
"Damn. You're a Kin?" he says, referring to my ability.
Everyone in our society has one of the five types of powers. (In order of least to most powerful...) There are Current's, who can control wind and air. Hydro's, who can control water. Static's, who can control electricity. Inferno's, who can control fire and heat. And finally there's the most rare type. Kinesthetic's or Kin's, who can control movement's and people's minds.
"Yes I'm a Kin. I'm also a little bit special considering I'm half inferno." I say, and his jaw drops. I got used to this by the time I was seven. It was pretty rare to be a Kin in itself, but to be a split Kin was one of the most rare abilities ever. Usually, abilities were split by parents onto children of the lower types, but if one of your parent's were Kin and one was Inferno, like in my case, the stronger ability (Kin) would normally take over. I'm a little different though...
My mom is Kin and my dad is Inferno but somehow, for me it got split. That's why I had to have David, because it was harder to control the abilities I had than it was for some kids.
"How about you Stefan?"
"I'm a three split." He says and this time, it was my turn to drop my jaw. Three split's weren't unheard of but they were rare. Almost as rare as Kin's. What happens with them is that a hereditary ability (a grandparent's usually, that wasn't passed on) shows up in a basic split kid and they end up having three abilities.
"which three?"
"Look, Anastasia, let's talk about this inside. I don't feel safe in this corridor." He says glancing around nervously, and I realize that he's probably right.
"Okay which number is our room?"
"223" He says and I look around to see that we've been right in front of it the entire time.
"How do we get in?" The rooms have no doors. Just a black dot with the number printed on it in black.
"You use your chip."
"What chip?"
"Damn, you really are new." He says, running a hand through his hair.
"Anyways, you were inserted with a chip at your medical exam. All POW's have them." seeing my confused look he continues.
" It's in your wrist. It must have been flashing black or something?"
"Oh, yeah that thing."
"Yeah, that thing." He says in a high-pitched voice and rolls his eyes.
"It'll stop flashing when you activate it by entering the room."
"Oh." and he laughs at my simplistic response.
Before I can protest, he grabs my hand and sticks it through the black dot. This time, instead of sucking me in, it pixilated like what that doctor did when I was in that hospital thing. Stefan walks us through before the wall can reconstruct and I notice that the faint sting that was in my wrist (I didn't even notice it) had disappeared.
I look around and take in what's around me.
Wow, this is small.
