"They keep us together the entire time. That's how it works when you're assigned a partner."
"Good to know."
"Hey Steff?"
"Yeah?"
"What are your three abilities? you never told me."
"Hydro, Static and Inferno."
"Wow, those are the three most powerful next to kin."
"Yeah, I didn't have them under control for most of my childhood." he says with a chuckle "Even burnt off one guys hair one year."
"STEFF!"
"I was like... Six. And we were playing duck, duck goose!"
Even I couldn't help but laugh at the idea of a chubby little Stefan playing duck, duck goose and setting some other little boy's hair on fire.
"What are you laughing at?"
"The idea of a chubby, short version of you running around setting peoples hair on fire."
"a) I was not a fat child—"
"everyone had puppy fat."
"everyone except for me. I am, and always have been, a superhero, with six-pack abs." He says grinning
"You can't do magic Stefan. You aren't Harry Potter." I say, making reference to the greatest classic series of literature.
"I might now be Harry, but I'm sure I could impress you with my wand." He says, smirking.
"Stefan!" I exclaim. I cannot believe he actually just said that.
"Stefan Saxton and Anastasia Silvers, please proceed into the hallway, and follow the arrows to the Canteen."
The mechanical voice says, and my breath hitches. My all white jumpsuit suddenly feels a lot tighter...
Stefan grabs my hand and pulls me into a side hug.
"Relax. I'll be with you the entire time." He says, and I force myself to calm down.
We step out of the room and start following the arrows until finally, after going down corridor after corridor, we get to two big metal doors. Steff pushes them open and I see a sea of white. So many POW's are in here, all the women wearing white jumpsuits identical to mine and all the men wearing those identical to Steff's. I look around at the many different faces, and they all look so different. There's one girl who has dark (but lighter than mine) hair, and who looks incredibly daunting.
Wow. There are more of us than I thought.

Two guards approach us at the doors. They scan our chips with some weird black box thing that makes our wrists glow a faint blue. Then they tell us to go to the two seats with 223 printed on the back. Eventually when we find them, there's a small box in front of each of our seats that has a small notice which says
put your wrist in the compartment and your food will arrive.
We follow instructions and we're left with a bowl of slightly gray, lumpy stuff and a silver glass filled with a clear liquid which I hope is water.
