Chapter 13: The News

Jessie's POV

We had to wait 3 hours before we got any news. I didn't want to go to bed but I was so tired.

I ended up falling asleep anyway.

"Can I have the people that were here with Jessica?" asked the nurse. "Follow me please. Sit down and the doctor will be with you soon."

"I wonder why we're in this fancy office," I said out loud.

"I don't know. I just don't think that it could be something good," said Marie. (Jessica's mom)

I sat there thinking of the possibilities of what the doctor would say.

Is she dead?
Is she close to dead?
Is she alive but could have problems later in life?
Is she alive but in a coma or something?

I'll just have to wait and find out when the doctor comes in.

"So how was your day?" I asked trying to break the silence.

"Let's see. I worked at the worst job ever, being a morning nanny for the Peterson's little brat. Then I went to my favorite job at the diner. As soon as I got off of work I had to come here so I guess kinda good and kinda bad."

I think she was serious when she said her favorite job is at the diner.

"Why is working at the diner you favorite job?" I asked hoping I didn't sound like an idiot.

"I've always wanted to be a chef, and open up my own restaurant. I just can't afford it right now so I've been saving some money. I don't think that money is going to get me anywhere now. I mean with this big hospital bill and... oh God I pray not but if Jessica is dead I have to pay for a funeral too." she said starting to cry.

"If you want I can give you some money to help," I said hoping to cover up that stupid question I asked.

"No honey you keep your money."

Just then the doctor walked in.

"Hi. I am Dr. James," said the doctor.

I almost cried she said her last name is James.

"I'm afraid I have some bad news," she said.

Oh no!
