"Rosie!" Someone said, "Rosie wake up." I came to and groggily rubbed my eyes, sunlight streaming though the curtains.
"What...?" I opened my eyes and saw Owen standing over me and I screamed.
"What the hell are you doing?! Fuck!" Owen cursed, covering his ears dramatically.
"What the hell are you doing?! You're in my house at 6am!" I shouted. I was suddenly aware I was only wearing my lace bra and a pair of spandex shorts due to Central America being like an oven at night. I pulled the sheet a little higher, watching Owen smirk.
"I was bored and I couldn't sleep. So I came and woke you up." He said simply, flinging open my curtains letting the early morning sunlight blind me.
"Jesus shut that will you! I've only just woken up! Mind telling me how you even got in?!" I demanded, watching as he made himself comfortable in the small chair in the corner of the bedroom.
"You left your window wide open, it was almost like you were begging for me to enter." Owen said, chuckling to himself.
"Don't flatter yourself. Now can you get out whilst I get dressed? I may aswell now you obviously show no signs of leaving." I sighed. Owen stayed sat in the chair, still smirking as I stood up out of bed.
"Owen get out. I'm being serious I want to get changed." I groaned.
"I'm being serious too Rosie. I don't mind staying, it's no trouble at all!" He said casually.
"Urgh! Will you just leave!" I said, throwing one of the pillows from the bed at him.
"Ow! Fine! I'm going, I'll wait just out here." He held his hands up in surrender as he walked out of the room.
"But hey, I'm keeping this as a momento of my time here." He said, popping his head back in the door quickly. I furrowed my brows in confusion and saw he was holding out a pair of my lace underwear that were quite literally spilling out of the small drawer I had them in.
"Owen!" I groaned loudly and he laughed before shutting the door properly. I smacked my head in desperation.
In fear of him coming back in, I quickly got changed into a pink crotchet top and black denim shorts and tied my long wavy hair into a high ponytail. I put on my converse and went into the main living area to get a snack.
"Wow, aren't those a little short for work?" Owen said, following me into the kitchen.
"A little. But it's hot. It's only you and Barry anyway, it doesn't really matter." I said, biting into an apple.
"Well there's Hoskins." Owen said, causing me to laugh.
"Hmm okay." I said sarcastically.
"Seriously Rosie, he's a real creep. I'd watch out."
"Thank you so much for looking out for me, but luckily there's 4 hungry raptors I can always throw him to." I said with a smile, quoting his words from yesterday. Owen noticed and laughed slightly, shaking his head.
"Lowrey will see." Owen said after a brief silence. I groaned and rolled my eyes.
"He's not going to see, I only see him at lunch and he's probably too scared to come over after yesterday." I said.
"Well good. And remember, he has cameras everywhere." Owen said. I rolled my eyes and tossed my apple in the trash.
"What's your problem with Hoskins anyway?"
"I don't want to talk about him." Owen replied quickly, walking out of the room. Wow, he was so bipolar.
"What is it? Maybe I can actually understand, and maybe help if you told me."
"Fuck Rosie, I just told you I didn't want to tell you." Owen spun around and was walking closer to me.
"You can't keep treating me like shit Owen and being so difficult and controlling!"
"I'm not being difficult! You're just making life difficult by asking so many damn questions, always trying to worm your way in and help!" He was raising his voice now, and backing me towards the wall slowly but surely. I felt my back hit the wall then, and Owen kept on moving, coming closer.
"It's your turn to argue about how we need to learn to get along." Owen breathed. His breaths were coming in short and sharp paces, and I suddenly found my own breathing getting heavier.
"Well I.. I don't..." I stammered, I didn't know what to say. Owen's eyes flickered to my lips and I pushed on his shoulders gently.
"We should go get some breakfast." I said quietly, thinking straighter now there was more distance between us.
"Erm... Yeah, I'll catch you up." He said, before not giving me a second glance and stalking out of the bungalow. I shook my head to calm my beating heart and followed suit.
"Rosie!" Claire called. She was sitting in the corner of the dining room. I was confused, I had never seen her in here.
"Hey Claire, I never knew you got your breakfast in here." I said, sitting opposite her in the window booth.
"Well you weren't here this early yesterday. But enough small talk, what's this about Owen and Lowrey fighting over you?" She smirked, sipping her coffee cup. I nearly spat out my water.
"Oh god. That was just a misunderstanding." I laughed nervously. Claire said nothing, just raising an eyebrow and going back to her cereal.
"No sexual tension in the workplace I've got to be concerned about them?" She said and I rolled my eyes playfully.
Claire and I had a brief chat about my first day before it was time to get to work and when I arrived at the paddock, Owen was already there, and was training the raptors. Well, he was at least trying to.
"Delta! Don't do this! Fuck!" Owen cursed as Delta ran off and he was left alone. He ran up to the gate and kicked it in frustration, his hands going to his head as he paced back and forth.
"What's up with him?" Barry came up behind me and said. I simply shrugged and made my way to the paddock.
"Owen, calm down." I said lightly and was ignored. Bravely, I reached over and swiped my employee pass over the reader and opened the side gate for me to walk into the paddock.
"Are you crazy? Yesterday you couldn't even touch them and now you're just walking on in here?" Owen said, staring at me as if I had grown two heads.
"Trust me I'm shitting my pants. Are you okay?" I said shakily.
"I don't need your sympathy Rosie." Owen said.
"I'm not giving you sympathy, I'm just asking you if you're alright." I retorted. This morning Owen and I almost had a normal conversation, and now we were back to this.
"Well the raptors... they're just in one of those moods." Owen sighed, kicking some dirt on the ground. I was about to reply when I heard skuttling behind me. My eyes went wide as I saw Owen's stare harden.
"Rosie. Do not move." He said lowly. I froze on the spot, my heart pounding, "hey, eyes on me." He repeated softly as I locked eyes with him.
"Echo. Stand down." Owen told Echo, who I then realised was behind me. Echo growled slightly and moved around so she was almost in the middle of us. I was trembling slightly, but then all of a sudden, she offered me her head, and with confusion I stared at Owen.
"Rosie... She... She wants you to pet her." Owen said as if he couldn't believe it.
"Wh... What?" I said, but with instinct my hand reached out and I stroked her head.
"Echo." I repeated softly, smiling as she tilted her head into my touch, before another raptor called to to her and she ran off into the paddock.
"Whoa." I said, staring at my hands as I couldn't believe it.
"That has never happened before. You're literally a stranger to her and-" Owen smiled in excitement, "she didn't try and bite you or anything!"
"Thank god! They're actually kind of sweet." I said with a giggle. Owen said nothing and just smiled at me, and I tried to ignore my heart that seemed to be beating out of my chest.
