"Harvey what's the date today?"
"September ten, why are you asking?" Harvey replied. He appeared confused when we looked at each other.
"Can you tell me what year?"
"2010, why are you asking?" Harvey slowly rose up from the bed and winced slightly, probably from the pain on the back of his head.
I quickly turned my head to the doctor and back to Harvey. He looked at me as the doctor meet my gaze. "Did I say something wrong?" he asked out of curiosity.
"Harvey," I said sitting down beside him and grabbing his arm for support. "Can you tell where you're at and how did you obtain your injury?"
Harvey stared blankly at me, trying to remember his lost memories. Slowly he shook his head from side to side. When he turned his eyes back at me, they widen as realization kicks in. "I don't remember."
I inhaled sharply, closing my eyes to stop my emotions. "It's 2015, we buried grandpa last week."
"What?" Harvey was shocked by the news. I hate to do this to him, it looks like he has to go through the grief he already suffered from.
"Yes, he's dead. You were supposed to meet with detective Arlo last week, but when you got to the meeting place a couple of guys riding a motorcycle came and smashed your head. They checked the CCTVs found in the area but the plate number was fake and the riders' faces were covered. Do you remember any of this?" I willed him to remember, even just a tiny glimpse. How he felt that day, what was going through his head, or perhaps how the offender looked like.
"I don't remember, Marge. I don't remember." He placed both hands to his head and started panicking. I probably fed him too much information, and before I knew what was happening, Harvey passed out once again.
The doctors ushered me out of the room where Cole is waiting for me. "Is he up?" he asked taking my hand to make me seat on one of the chairs.
"He was but his last memory was back in 2010,"
"Amnesia?"
"Looks like it. He's passed out again after I filled him in with everything, and it seems that it wasn't the best thing for me to do."
"He'll be fine."
Cole's phone rang then. He looked concerned when he look at the called I.D. "Excuse me, I have to take this call." He said and walked away from my hearing range. Who could that possibly be for him to take the call privately? I stared after Cole debating on whether or not I should follow him. My mind won the battle and I decided to stay where I'm at. Besides I'm not into the habit of eavesdropping, and who he talks to or meets with is none of my business.
"Everything okay?" I asked when he came back.
"Ah yes. Actually that was my dad, he wants us to come over if that's okay with you. I mean you don't have to, it's just that he's not aware of Harvey's predicament and I told him to reschedule it some other time."
"Oh, I hope it's not that important."
"No, I'm sure it could wait." He replied and we sat next to each other in comfortable silence.
Who would have thought that Cole and I could converse comfortably with each other. The first time I talked to him, I admit I took an immediate dislike on him. I wanted nothing to do with such an arrogant man but it seems that I have grown quite comfortable in his presence. Just then the doctor walked out to talk to me about Harvey's condition. It seems that Harvey's injury caused him to forget five years of his life.
Just then, the doctor approached us to tell us about Harvey's situation. "Harvey will be fine. In a few minutes he'll wake up again. As you already know his injury caused him to forget five years of his life. We're not certain if he will regain his memories, some cases do remember, we hope the patient does as well. Excuse me,"
