BRUCE’S POV

We are in the soccer field. I wasn’t ready for this. What do I expect? What I only brought was a bar of chocolate, my phone and Krisa. I made a wrong move a while ago in the classroom. I’m not even sure if I was ready to encourage her. She was trembling.

“Why?” I asked.

“It’s my,” She said and simple looked down. “Nothing, it’s nothing.”

I grabbed her right arm then she simply looked at me slowly. “What? Oh, so you’re grabbing my arm just to get my attention?”

“WHAT? No! Ok, I may have said that but it’s a lie. A COMPLETE LIE, OK?” I screamed in front of her.

She looked down again.

WHAT AM I DOING? I’m letting her down again. Maybe it’s time to tell the complete truth. I thought and let go of her hand.

“You know,” I said.

She stared at me, fast. “What? Oh, wait. You said you were going to show me something.”

While she was saying those words, I blushed.

“Hey Bruce look! It’s Red, my old friend!” She said.

”Where,” I asked while looking for him.

She twisted my face to show where he is. And there he was. He was there in front school reading a book same like Kristina’s: the Mark of Athena. When I looked towards her, she ran fast towards him.

“Kristina!” I screamed.

She screamed back but I didn’t understand what she said.

Barney! You book about the mythologies. Now look, Kristina is also an addict because you triggered her in your fancy books! Greek and roman mythology dictionary, I’m going to curse you! I thought and went near to Kristina.

When I went closer to Kristina and Red, they were talking like whoa. Red may have influenced her with his gods and goddesses. When I looked at Kristina, she was so focused to Red. Now, I really mad.

“BARNEY!” I screamed.

When I looked at Kristina again, she excused herself and went near me.

“What are you thinking?” She asked.

“What are you doing?” I argued.

The promise! I not allowed to, argue with her! I took a deep breath. “You know-”

Red came in. “Hey Bruce! Long, time no-see huh?” He asked.

“Yes.”

“So, how’s high school in CDC?”

“And I can see that you’re with my things here.”

“Bruce, this is no time to start this again!” Kristina said.

“Ha! I guess it’s time for battle!” He said. “Krisa, what do you choose: books or Bruce?” Red asked.

She’s trembling again. But this time, it’s now obvious.

“Kristina, let’s leave.” I said.

“No! You’re both not allowed to go until she has already answered my question!” Red screamed.

“Red, I didn’t sign this up! I only came to you just to ask: how’s your life and what’s up with that mythology memorization f yours. And this is what came: a huge disaster.” She looked at me. “Bruce, you’re correct. I really wished I didn’t go here.” She dropped a tear. “I’m sorry.”

“I should be the one-”

“That’s enough!” Red screamed. “Kristina,”

Kristina looked at him slowly with teary eyes.

“Red, you’re making her pressure!” I said

“Or,” He asked.

“Or I’ll lead to be a complete deaf!” Kristina said. “Last year, I was deaf. There was something misplaced in my ear. Summer, the best doctors operated my left ear, where the misplaced thing is. The operation wasn’t successful. My brain was damaged. Some parts of it, affected so my genes are now different. Whenever I pressure, the thing that they added will be removed and destroy one part of the brain: the hearing senses. It’s hard to live like this Red! So please, don’t pressure-”

“No! You must choose: books or Bruce?” Red asked.

Kristina, choose books. You love reading. I thought.

“I choose,” Kristina is still deciding. “Books”

“Ha! You see Siquian, love of books never fails.” Red said “A girl that loves books never-”

“I’m not done yet.” Kristina said.

I was in shock. A thousand lightning volts rushed through my veins.

“Then what,” I asked.

“I choose books, if the house of hades is out.” Kristina said.

“WHAT?” Red got mad.

“It’s coming out this October 8 right?” I asked.

“Yes. I lost my interest because of waiting.” Kristina said.

Then, I looked for Red and he wasn’t there.

“Where’s Red?” I asked.

“Don’t mind him. I don’t think that was a battle.” Kristina said.

“It was just a bet.”

“You got it, all right. I love you and I never gave up on you.”

“Thank you, for not giving up on me.”

We rushed towards school.
