Narin sat atop the roof of his home.. thinking..

The Slum District in which he lived wasn't exactly as the name described. The truth was, it's appearance was like that of an ordinary 21st century Japanese neighborhood. With rusty old gas stations, ordinary houses with walled off yards, ordinary streets and sidewalks..

The only instance of different it had in our sense of different, was the fact that all the cars possessed no tires.. instead, they used high powered magnets on their bottoms that synced with metal filaments and computer monitors below the asphalt to keep afloat.

The Real Varus City.. was above, where the rich people lived.

Varus City was basically a two floored city, with a massive ground floor, and a high tech top floor. This was called the Varus Tree.

The bottom of the tree.. which was the Slums, were also called the Roots. The Roots, containing the lower class, was around 30 percent of the entire city.

The top, which was a high tech wonderland of technology, and artificial forest environments full of great residences and biological wonders, was the Treetop. In fact.. a giant spread of artificial branches covered up some of the city's more secret areas such as the Military Development center, giving the Varus City the actual appearance of a tree. The luminescent energy crystals that made up these artificial branches would glow a different color depending on the season. This spring, it was Sakura Pink.

The high class area was made up of 20 percent of the city.

Then came the rest of the 50 percent. The Trunk. A massive tower that was 40 miles in diameter, filled with high speed elevators, malls, shops, and tourist destinations, as well as artificial environment safaris that housed mutant animals and normal endangered species alike, as well as revived dinosaurs that in the 21st century, would've merely been a dream of Steven Spielberg's John Hammond.

The trunk was where schools were, businesses, and pretty much where everyone went to work. It was also where RB Inc. was housed.

The higher up in the Trunk you worked, the more likely you were to make lots of money, and also the more likely you were to live in the Treetop.

Because of this, Slum Class people rarely ever met the upper class within the Trunk.

Jin Jousuke, being one who was very strict in his Japanese roots and traditions, was very intolerant of RB Inc and of the technological advancements of the current era. However, Narin's mother Landry, was much more tolerant, having grown up in the environment of the Treetop.

Narin thought about his place in the world class as he looked up at the giant branches in the sky, as his childhood friend Nina, a girl with long black hair and bright blue eyes, climbed up to greet him.
