"You can't even take care of a simple assassination!" Her father bellowed.   Mary's head dipped in shame as her fathers face reddened.   "You know what?   Give the Alpha position to Gale!   I don't care that he will ruin the pack I have made.    But I'll be damned if I have to suffer the humiliation of my daughter ruining the back herself!"

Tears brimmed her eyes, but she was careful to keep from sobbing.    "You think I need you?     I can do this all by myself.    Maybe at first it was to prove myself to you, but now it's to prove myself to me.    Stay away from my dreams, and you better look up and watch as I take control on my pack."   Mary had indeed said her father was in hell which made him angrier than before.

His face turned as red a tomato.    Mary wiped the tears that began to fall, attempting to hide them from her father.   "I forbid you from doing anything if the sort!" He roared.

"You can't forbid me!   You are dead.   D  E  A  D.   DEAD."   Mary awoke in the bed in her guest room.   The mattress drenched in sweat she presumed was her own as there was no one else their.

She walked over to the large window and found that it was still around midnight.   Her stomach growled.   A midnight snack wouldn't hurt.   She tucked her knife into the waist line of her pajama pants and walked into the wood-floored hallway.    The ground growing colder with each step.

She heard the floor boards crack from around the hallway and her hand reached for the wooden handle of her blade.   Madeline stepped around the corner.   Her dress wrinkled but her makeup still flawless.    "You tried to kill me!" She whispered with an edge in her voice.

    "Correct."

"Did you forget that whatever happens to me happens to you?   Or do you need a reminder?" She asked, pulling out a blade of her own.    She drew it across her palm until a red substance emerged from her hand.

Even with the small lighting of the hall lights.    Madeline was able to see that Mary's hand hadn't been affected.    Her jaw dropped.   "Can you connect to dots, or shall I explain?"   Mary could see Madeline's eyes glare at her as she had seen her makeup's perfection.   "I have a witch friend who was able to undo the spell.   You think you're the only person with power?   Well guess what.    You were wrong."

   "We had a deal!"

"No, you blackmailed me.    Now I'm repaying the favor.    Don't speak of me trying to kill you, or I will, in fact, kill you.    We will talk about the other terms later. Now if you don't mind, I want some waffles."    Mary explained, moving past Madeline's gaping mouth.

After rummaging around the large kitchen she was able to find a box of toaster waffles and popped them in a toaster that she had had to climb onto the counter to reach. She piled them into a paper plate and added some syrup, and began the trip back to her room.

She couldn't fall asleep, afraid her father would, in fact, come back to her dreams. Mary couldn't help but wonder if it was actually her father. He certainly had her father's short temper.

Her eyelids fell, but she was quick to react and ate another bite of her waffle. The sun began to shine through her bedroom curtains. Finally, she would get to go home to her pack, but she had to face Madeline, Gale, and Jackson to sign off papers and such.

"Sign here, initial here, check here," Alpha Jackson instructed me, "I better not be wasting my time here. If your pack fails, it will impact mine, too. So you better make sure you don't screw this up for the both of us, because I make one hell of a enemy."

A tight smile made its way to her face. Madeline and Gale groaned at Alpha Jacksons acceptance. Surely he's joking? He couldn't possibly be serious! Allying with a woman who wants to be the Alpha! Mary could practically hear Gale's thoughts. Mary took a copy and put it in a folder that she tucked neatly into her purse for safe keeping.

"Have a nice day. I hope to see you soon," Mary lied.

"I hope not," replied Jackson, to which Mary would agree.

Mary packed her suit case and threw on leggings and a tee shirt. Something that could've easily pass as pajamas. She rolled down the stairs to find Madeline and Gale with their own bags, and tired expressions.

She didn't expect to see gleeful expressions, so Mary was not particularly surprised to see them groan. What? Did you hope I would die on my way down the stairs? Mary thought.

The car ride will certainly be awkward. Madeline immensity plugged herself into her tablet as she watched some movie. Gale surfed the interweb, checking random sights and news feeds. Mary, listened to a random playlist while looking at the window. Trees passes by her.

I'm not a tree, she thought, I don't pass right by with out a second glance. Mary's eyes softened as the pulled into the driveway of her pack house. It looked like a mansion. Old, with a red-brick, outside. It was three story's high and had a north and south wing. Their was green, plush, grass in the front with a swing set.

Children played and some waved at Mary and the passing car. Parents waved too, though Mary could feel their hesitation. She didn't judge. For Mary would hesitate, too.

August was the first to greet them, then Ray came forward, smiling at Mary. And only Mary.   The members of the Blood Moon Pack crowded around the car to see Mary and the others.   Mary smiled and waved and made her way through the ever growing crowd.

She made her way to her room.    The wallpaper in her guest room was irritating and she was happy to be back in her red, black, and white room.    She crashed onto her small, compared to the king sized one she had been on for the last weekend, bed.

Two weeks until she presents her case to the committee.
