Marley Jennings is a 17 year old high school student attending Charleston Academy School Of The Arts. Her favorite thing to do is paint and write. She paints to release and reduce stress upon herself.

When Marley was 13 years old her father came to her home and murdered her grandmother, Mariselle, who was her guardian at the time. After her grandmothers death and her fathers sentencing Marley's mother Marilee was appointed full guardianship of her. Marley hated her mother because of her addiction to crack and heroin. At the time of Marilee getting custody she was sober for a while and then started back on crack after they stopped doing house visits. A few weeks after Marley turned 14 her mother had sobered up some more and finally gave Marley her birthday present..It was a little black book that had once belonged to Mariselle, Marley's grandmother. It was the greatest gift Marley had ever received so far and she would keep it with her at all times. She would write down all of her secrets and all of the dark things about her past in her little black book. Marley wrote about the killing of her grandmother and about her mothers addiction to heroin and crack. She became a very active writer and over the years she had acquired over 14 journals but none of them could compare to her little black book.

It's been 4 years since the killing of the women Marley once called grandma and she was entering the 12th grade at Charleston Academy School Of The Arts. SOA for short. Marley had no friends. The only friend she had ever had was a girl she had met in 6th grade named Jordan. Jordan was extremely beautiful. In 2009 Jordan, her mother, and her father were headed home from visiting her mother's sister in Summerville when a drunk driver crashed into their small compact car head on killing Jordan and her mother instantly. After Jordan and her mothers death, Jordan's father had moved far away from this state in hopes for a new start. Marley had lost contact with Jordan's father after the funeral and things weren't the same for Marley. Her world was crashing down slowly beneath her feet..

"What college are you trying to attend?" Ms. Loney asked Marley.

"I guess a community college. I'm not sure at the moment because things aren't going right."

"You have so much potential Marley. You have a gift. A talent that shouldn't go unrecognized."

"Thank you Ms. Loney but I can't afford to go to a real college right now. So Trident Tech or online courses will have to do for me."

RING RING

The bell had rung indicating that Marley's lunch period was over. Marley never went to lunch, instead she went to the art room to paint or to sit and talk with the art teacher Ms. Loney. Ms. Loney was someone Marley looked up to and could come to whenever she needed someone to talk to. Her next class was science. Marley walked into science before anyone else and took her seat in the back. The teacher had not arrived to class yet so that gave Jasmine Jones time to have her own little announcement.

"Attention Science class! Jasmine is speaking! Please be quiet!" Jasmine yelled standing on top of the science table counters. "Now that I have your attention I'd just like to say that I am throwing a party this weekend and you are all invited!"

The whole class said their 'yay's' and some even yelled 'thank you!' but not Marley. Marley knew Jasmine was conniving and sly so there was no telling what would go down at this party. After Science was over Jasmine called Marley over before the bell had the chance to chime.

"When I said everyone was invited, I meant you too. See you there!" Jasmine smiled skipping off into the crowded hallway.

Marley knew better than to trust Jasmine but she didn't think Jasmine had anything against her, so why not go to her party?

Jasmine's party was in 2 days and Marley had those days to decide what to wear to the party. She didn't want to look slutty and she didn't want to make it look like she was going to church so she choose something plain. A black pencil skirt and a button up white blouse should work! Marley had never been to one of Jasmine's parties but she heard they were loads of fun and a lot of cute boys would be there! Marley wasn't looking for a boyfriend, she was trying to focus on her school work so she could graduate.

'But a male friend would be nice.' Marley thought to herself laughing a little.

"Marrrrrley come here!" Marilee yelled down the hall. "I'm coming ma!" Marley yelled back while putting her clothes inside of her dresser. "

Yes mama?" Marley asked Marilee.

"What are you doing?" Marilee asked slurring her words a little.

"I'm choosing an outfit for a party I'm going to Saturday."

"Your slutty ass better not come home pregnant. Better not go out messin' with these little hoodlums at your school! Matter of fact, don't come home at all. Huh? How about that?" Marilee said smiling showing her rotten teeth.

Marilee had been strung out on crack and heroin all week and Marley was used to her mother being rude to her and throwing hate at her. She ignored it walking back into her room falling on her bed staring at the ceiling.

"Why me God?" Marley asked grabbing her little black book to write.
