9 ☆ birthdays

It was Leo's birthday.

And it was also the middle of Summer.

The sun shined down on your face as Leo sat down next to you.

"Do you know what today is?" He smiled, taking your hand.

I do, you thought.

"No, sorry Leo." You sheepishly smiled.

"Oh. Okay." Leo whispered, dropping your hand.

You felt bad, but it didn't matter. You and his friends were planning a surprise party.

"Hey, babe, can you meet me at the lake later though? I thought we could take a night swim or something." You said, staring at the forest in front of you.

"Uh, I guess. If I don't get eaten, that is." He replied softly.

You smiled at him. "Great! Oh, and don't come all depressed. Please."

He gave a small smile. "I'm just worried about getting eaten."

Of course he was. "Right. Well I've gotta go. I'll cya at, um, nine?"

He nodded just as you hopped off the bench. He was going to be so surprised.

It was 8:39 PM.

Leo would be here soon.

His friends were frantically running around, trying to make everything perfect.

Leo was turning 16, after all.

Piper randomly threw flower petals everywhere because Jason told her to make the lake-side look "pretty".

Percy and Annabeth were organizing the food and party plans.

Frank and Hazel walked around barefoot, staring at the moon.

Nico helped Will with fireworks.

And others looked for hiding spots in bushes.

You had the most important job. Watching for Leo.

Your heart fluttered when you first saw him coming. His head was hung and his clothes were scorched.

You turned back and yelled at everyone to hide.

They did,

"Leo!" You called, taking a step closer.

"Y/N," He yelled back. "I'm here."

"I can see that." You replied, walking a little closer.

When you finally met, you pulled him into an embrace. You stood there for a while, looking at the moon.

You soon let go and kissed his cheek.

Then the bushes moved.

Leo arched an eyebrow just as everyone jumped out and yelled, "SURPRISE!"

"Oh my gods, you knew all along!" Leo looked at you.

He looked so perfect in the moonlight.

He picked you up, spun you around, and kissed you.

"Guys, PDA much?" Percy yelled through a laugh.

Leo finally put you down and smiled. "Thank you." He said.

You nodded just as everyone walked over, ready for a group hug.

"Happy birthday," You whispered through the screams.
