I was about to head out for the meeting with Clarke when I realized I didn't check my phone all day. I ran back to my bedroom but couldn't find it in there. I went to check in the living room, flipping up the sofa's cushion. Still no sign of my phone. I searched for it a couple more minutes. But it was already 3:45 pm and I didn't want to be late. I decided I would go and search for it later.
The watch on my wrist showed 3:59 when I entered the Starbucks. I looked around the room for Clarke but she wasn't there yet. I ordered a grande cappuccino and sat at a table in the corner of the room. I grabbed a magazine as I didn't have my phone to occupy me while waiting. I flipped a couple of pages and checked my watch again. 4:04 pm. Okay. It's not like she has to be there at exactly 4 o'clock, I told myself. I stopped the magazine at the page of an article about the new discoveries they made about ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia. I found myself sucked in the article and checked the time about 15 minutes later. Already 20 minutes late. Well, maybe there has been some problems with her subway line. Things like that happen.
10 more minutes passed and she was still not here with me. And 10 more again. It was getting close to 5 pm and Clarke was nowhere to be seen.
She must have thought about what she told me this morning. That she, in fact, meant every world she said. Not coming must have been her way to make it clear to me. Well, it's definitely clear, now. I'm done with her. If she doesn't get how important she is to me. And if she doesn't understand that I didn't mean for any of this to happen, (okay, maybe a little bit), but not in a way I could have planned it like she said, then I have nothing more to say to her. This is it. We're done.
I grabbed my wallet and headed out of the Starbucks, more angry than ever.
