Chapter 16- Why?

Athena's POV 

I wasn't even sure where I was going as I ran out of the Great hall and down the halls, how was I mean't to even find him, I should of asked who he even had detention with. I was on the third floor now trying to decide if I should go up and look near the charms class rooms. Thats when I saw a flash of raven hair go past of the end of the hall and again I was running, thankful I was only wearing a pair of long black leggings, ballet flats and a grey t-shirt that looked like a muggle sports team jersey but it sat off my shoulders. I kept on running trying to catch up to him, could he really not hear me, my foot steps sounded like a herd of elephants to my ears.

"JAMES!" I yelled as I rounded the corner coming to a stop. I watched him turn around to face me, a look of surprise flickered across his face.

"Athena?" He sounded surprised to see me, he stared at me as I slowly walked towards him. He kept running his hand through his hair, an odd expression on his face.

"Why James? Why did you do it?" I said looking at him, watching him closely.

James POV

"Athena." I said as I looked at her standing there, finally looking better, like nothing had really happened to her. Her long blonde hair in a long curly pony tale down her back. 

"Why James? Why did you do it?" She was watching me closely as she said it and I instantly knew what she was referring to. Someone must have told her, probably Scorpius or one of the girls, I cursed them silently they could of made up a lie or something. 

"Do what?" I said, maybe I could play dumb.

"Come on James, Scorpius and Rose told me you were in detention and when I asked why, Violet said you'd gotten into a fight with Lincoln Avery." She was staring at me with big grey eyes and I wanted to look away, pity she practically had me pinned in place with those eyes. Guess there was no point in playing dumb or lying, she knew.

"Why do you think I did it Athena?" I asked her.

"At first I thought it was because your friends with Scorpius but Lily... She..." She said her voice trailing off at the mention of my baby sister, oh great.

"What did Lily say?" I said trying to catch her eye, she was now trying to look anywhere but me. 

"Lily and Scorpius said you didn't do it for him, you did it for me?" She said staring at the floor. Huh so they'd told her. It was easy enough for someone to figure out, though only Teddy knew with 100% certainty that I did it because of how I felt, like he did with Victoire.

I didn't say anything for a few minutes, I took a deep breath before starting to speak again.

"Thea I did do it for you." I watched her face shoot back up to look at me, different emotions danced across her face and I noticed the look of surprise the most. 

"You did but why James?" She said and I could hear the disbelief in her voice, could she really not get it. "Wait it was you!" She said her eyes lighting with realisation. "It was you I heard before I blacked out." I swallowed hard, I hadn't thought she'd probably heard me or would even really remember. "Said you were sorry, you said please stay with me Thea." She had taken a step closer to me now, I turned and looked out the window for a second, thinking of my dads words about my grandparents. 

"I didn't think you'd heard or would remember." I said before looking back at her, she was looking up at me and less then a metre away now, I had to fight the urge to pull her into my arms. I'd been fighting many things since I'd first met her. 

"I remember or I just did as soon as you called me Thea before, barely anyone outside of my family calls me Thea." She said quietly, even though we were in an empty hall and no one was around, probably still all at lunch, unlike me who had been doing a small stint of detention while everyone else ate. "Why did you say it? I didn't think you cared for me at all, I actually thought you hated me." I watched pain flash across her face and I couldn't help it when I started to laugh. She gave me an irritated look. "I'm glade that's funny to you Potter!" She said starting to get angry and I quickly stopped and grabbed her hands to stop her from trying to walk away.

"I'm not laughing at you Thea, I'm laughing at the situation. I wasn't mad at you I was angry with myself every time I spoke to you I seemed to just piss you off. The funny thing is I did it because I do care and I wanted you to stay with me Thea." I said hoping she would understand. I watched the anger drain from her face as she turned back to look at me. 

"Really?" 

"Yeah Thea, really!" I said as I pulled her forward and wrapped my arms around her, her head fit just under my chin because of our height difference and I could smell her apple shampoo. "Stay with me Thea?" I asked looking down at her, her blonde hair brushing the bottom of my face.

"Ok James." She said smiling, a real smile. It lit up her whole face, her grey orbs looking alive. 

"Come on lets go down to dinner, so I can show you off!" I said grinning at her. She turned and hit me in the shoulder giving me a stern look. "WHAT?" I said rubbing my arm but still neither of us had let go of the others hand.

"I'm not an object Potter!" She said sternly.

"No but I am one lucky guy and I should get to show you off!" I said giving her a cheeky grin and pulled her along with me towards our new destination. She didn't argue anymore, just shook her head and I noticed her stern look turn into a playful happy smile. I was right, I really was lucky.
