Chapter 21- Talk To Me

Hi sorry about the extremely long delay in updating I've been caught up with uni, being a single mum and just general life!! But I hope you like it and please be kind I'm a bit rusty.

James POV

I saw them walk back into the castle and I had to fight the urge to go straight to Athena, she had a look of slight panic on her face and I knew why. Scorpius was walking towards me and I started to walk towards him to.

"Scor.." I heard Athena call out after her brother and he turned around to smile at her.

"Were just going to have a chat Thea." He said calmly, and I felt slight panic go through me at the thought of this chat.. Was I about to die....

"Scorpius!" She said this time a lot louder.

"Come on Thea, let's go eat, leave them alone. He'll be fine." Orion said tugging her towards the great hall, and I hoped Orion was right and I would be fine.

I watched them disappear inside before turning my attention back to my friend.

Athena POV

I couldn't believe it when three sets of arms started to crush me. I pulled back after a few minutes, once I made it out of the mess of hair.

"Athena are you ok?" Said Vi, she was looking at me intently and she wasn't the only one.

"Guys I love your concern but I am fine and it will all work out fine. Just relax and don't worry please." I said looking at my friends half pleadingly.

"Hey Thea I'm going to go sit with Preston, you all good?" Orion said giving me a serious look.

"Yes of course don't be stupid Orion, remember I will get it out of you!" I said grinning at him.

"Good luck with that little sister." He said before grinning and walking over to the Slytherin table to join Preston.

"Get what out of him?" Rose said raising her eyebrow at me. I couldn't help but smile at my friends.

"He likes someone but he's refusing to tell me, they both are." I said looking at them and I noticed Rose's face change a little bit.

"You ok Ro?" I said giving her a concerned look and I noticed serval different emotions dance across her face, before she finally answered.

"Oh yeah sorry just thinking about some homework I have to do tonight, sorry." She said quickly.

"Oh...Kay.... if you say so." I said but I definitely was not convinced.

"We so need to find out who it is!" Dominique said giving me a devilish grin, and I couldn't help but whole heartedly agree.

"Oh I agree with you Dom, we most definitely do." I said as we shared a high five.

Scorpius POV

I looked at James, who in a few short days had become my closest friend in what was now our new home. It had been so easy being mates with him, maybe it was because our parents had been best friends. He looked nervous and kept running his hand through his hair as we walked down to the lake and stopped near a towering chestnut tree. His hair was now starting to stick up in a million different directions and part of me was mad as hell with him and the other half didn't want to be particularly mad because he was my best mate. But I knew what that had meant last time.

"Alright Scorpius I know you're mad man but you're going to kill me with suspense. Are you going to thump me or curse me or send me to the bottom of the black lake with the mermaids?" He said and it all rushed out of his mouth very very quickly.

And then I laughed, I couldn't help it. It was like all the tension that was in my body escape while watching him pace and panic and talk at a million miles an hour and then he looked even more confused and nervous.

"I'm sorry James for how I acted and how angry I got it isn't even you're fault. It's just Athena has dated one of my friends before and it ended really badly. She wound up in hospital in a serious condition and I can't forget it. I can't let it happen again, I won't let her be hurt like that again. She's still carrying the scares from that, there is a big one on her forearm. They couldn't heal it completely due to the damage that had been done, it was a combination of using magic and a knife to make the cut. Her cuts from Avery have healed better then that one did. It took weeks for her to get better and longer to get the whole picture to what had happened. That she'd been hiding bruises and arguments between them for months, she'd been slowly withdrawing and hiding away. We didn't know, we didn't even realise! I didn't realise.." I heard my voice break and looked over at James who's faced was contorted in anger and pain.

"I wouldn't do anything to her Scorpius..." He said and he sounded kind of gutted, as if he could feel the pain too. He started to move and pace, as if he was having trouble standing still.

"Score did you know your dad is like one of my uncles?" James said looking at me again.

"Well no not really, wasn't completely sure what the relationship was like between him and your family." I said honestly because I hadn't thought about it.

"From all the stories we heard as kids about him, you're mum, my parents and my aunts and uncles, it really did seem ridiculous that any of them ever were friend's. My dad finds it hard to believe there was a time when Uncle Draco wasn't one of his closest friends, he's even Lily's godfather. Him and my Uncle Ron still don't completely get along. But I never thought about it much till you said he was you're dad, about why when they mentioned our much loved Aunt Hermione, why he went so quiet. Why he sometimes looked so sad, why he never dated or got married himself, why he would disappear for periods of time. I guess he was still looking for you're mum, still searching for the one he loved and he's always secretly been my favourite Uncle, he never lies or hides what he has done, he's always honest. His mum and my Grandma Molly are even friends, and maybe this happened so when your mum came home it would be easier for her. To bring her worlds together." James said looking out at the lake and I liked the idea that somehow it had worked out this way, to ease the pain and guilt I know she had always felt.

"But I won't hurt her Scorpius, I promise. I'll protect her and look out for her and not just because she's your sister but because I really do care about her. She's not like everyone else, she's different. You guy's are family, you always were we just didn't know how much extra family we would get when Aunt Hermione came home. I think Christmas break this year will be epic." James said grinning at me but I could still see he was worried, I was going to still curse him. He wasn't Tristan I had to keep reminding myself.

"Ok I believe you Potter." I said grinning at him as he gave me a light shove and we started walking back up towards the Castle.

James POV

We laughed and talked as we walked up towards the castle, instantly warmer as we walked through the entry way towards the Great Hall. The doors were wide open and noise was pouring out, I could see my mum up at the teachers table with my Aunt Hermione and they both smiled at me before going back to their conversation. I couldn't stop myself when I looked towards our table, searching for her. Then I found those big grey eyes staring back at me and I gave her a grin, which caused her to smile so hard I thought her face would break.

"I trust you James, welcome to the family." He said with a grin before walking towards our table and I followed and noticed that he sat down next to my cousin Dominique and within minutes they were both laughing. I walked the last few metres and slid into the empty spot beside her and felt her wrap her hand in mine and throw me a smile before she continued on with her conversation with Rose. It would be a good year.
