⠀⠀⠀⠀"Oh fuck no Nathan, that's pointless. This is like back in fifth grade when you tried to find out who killed the fricking goldfish dude," one of the boys, Liam, said with a sigh. Although he was years older than Nathan, he knew everything about the fiasco with the goldfish from his little brother, who had been in Nathan's class for years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀Liam scuttled to his feet and walked back through to his own hotel room, yelling something about going to the park as soon as he was dressed, to get his mind off of things. The majority of everyone else was behind him, going away to go to the park and get their minds off of the death of Kendall.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"We'll help," Chloe said with a warm smile towards Nathan, gesturing between herself and Lexee, who looked just as eager to help. Both girls were in the same year as Nathan, although they were at the older end of the age spectrum in their year, and so knew them better than a lot of the others. Brynn, who was in the same year as them, and Alexander, who was a few years older, both nodded and came over to sit with Nathan, who was looking ecstatic about having a Scooby Doo mystery hunting team on his side.
⠀⠀⠀⠀Only one person was left in limbo, without a decision of joining the murder mystery cracking team, or going to the park with everyone else, Maddie Ziegler, Kendall's best friend. A few times, over the years that they'd been close, people had mistaken them for sisters, or twins, which had made them even closer. They called themselves the bros, which Nathan, who didn't really like Maddie and strongly hated Kendall, found stupid.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"Well Madison, are you in or out?" Nathan smiled internally as he used the brunettes full name, a thing that he knew for a fact would aggravate her, and then she would probably refuse to help out, which would please him majorly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"I want to know who killed her, so I guess Sherlock, that I'm in," Maddie spoke as she walked over and sat down next to Nathan, smiling as she watched his face twist into an annoyed scowl. Both sat there for a second, glaring at each other whilst the Internet on the laptop buffered, demonstrating how bad the wifi was.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"This is gonna end well," Lexee whispered to Brynn with a smile on her face, and the blonde let out a laugh. They were all sitting on the bed, next to Nathan, by now. Lexee and Chloe were next to each other, although the former seemed slightly more engrossed in her phone, Brynn was leaning into Alexander whilst her boyfriend had his arm draped lazily round her shoulders, and both Maddie and Nathan were sitting up and still glaring at each other.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"So, what do we know so far?" Nathan said blankly as his fingers hit away at the keys again. Maddie, who was looking over his shoulder, noticed that he had his screen split in half, with one half being a word document with the word clues written in bold as a heading at the top and the other had Google up, with Kendall's name typed into the search bar, although he hadn't clicked go yet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"Look her up, see what the news articles say. We need to get as much information as we can. Lexee, Chloe go look at different channels on the TV and you two," she gestured towards Brynn and Alexander, "go downstairs and scour all of the newspapers and make a mental list of everything that you find out. Okay, okay."
⠀⠀⠀⠀Nathan sat there in shock, watching Maddie dictate everybody, and watching as everybody left to go to where they'd been assigned to. The two girls crouched in front of the television, Lexee clicking the on button and both of them waiting for it to boot up. A few seconds later, the screen became bathed in light, and the news came onto the screen.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"Kendall K Vertes was found dead in the early hours of this morning. She was holidaying with her friends when her body was found at a bus station, her head fully sliced in half by what is suspected to be an axe. Vertes was only 17 years old and lived in Pittsburgh with her two sisters and her parents. Our condolences go out to the Vertes family and of course all of her friends," the newsreader said with a broad Texan accent. Chloe winced slightly as she heard the cause of Kendall's death again, and Lexee said the faint glimmer of tears in her eyes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"That's all the information that the Internet is giving. Same as the newscasters," Maddie said glumly with a small sigh. She had made a guess that all of the information that were found in the newspapers would either be useless or lies, made to make people want to buy the paper. Maddie frowned deeply and looked over at Nathan, who looked just as glum as she did.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"I didn't really like Kendall," Nathan begun, running a hand through his hair and giving a small sigh, "but I wish she hadn't died."
⠀⠀⠀⠀"Why?" Lexee asked from the floor as she used the remote to flick through various news channels, who all gave away the same information as the original one had. She pursed her lips as she saw a promising one, with a brighter presenter and a slideshow of Kendall photos behind. An excited gasp escaped her mouth as she read the subtitles, black words on a white background, that appeared at the bottom of the screen. "This one says that something was found in Kendall's pocket. A little apple, like the poisoned one out of Snow White." Lexee creased her brow.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"Snow White was Kendall's favourite Disney film," Maddie breathed quietly, and everyone stared at her in shock. "She told me once, when we were filming a YouTube video. It was a Q&A and Kendall's channel had been getting a lot of views round about that time. I said that mine was Tangled but Kendall argued that the classics were better."
⠀⠀⠀⠀"They're saying that the axe was connected with Snow White. Could it be?" Chloe dropped her voice to a whisper and looked at Lexee, Nathan and Maddie in turn.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"It could be. I have a feeling that the murderer had seen your YouTube video. How many views did it get?" Lexee crawled across the floor and sat next to Maddie, who was biting down hard on her lip.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"Well, the last time I saw the count, it was over a million."
⠀⠀⠀⠀"So back to square one I guess," Nathan said with a sigh, and set away with the keyboard, the smattering of his fingers the only sound in the room.

⠀⠀⠀⠀sorry I haven't been updating for a little but yesterday I was out all day at a dance workshop (where I fell on my back side in front of the teacher) and today I was back at school (yay :/ ) and then I had dance (double yay :// ) and then I got bored at lunch and sorta just sat there looking at my wattpad feed and trying to resist the urge to start reading (we aren't allowed phones) and then I decided to just go over to my friend and discuss our upcoming school trip so :)) I hope you enjoy this chapter :)) is it wrong that I came up with the victim list and how they died before I wrote this.
