⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀Chloe sat on the bed as the ever familiar sight of the police walked in. Mackenzie, Maddie's younger sister, was sobbing and in a complete state next to Chloe. She felt terribly sorry for the girl, when her twin brother had perished in a car accident four years ago. Chloe shuddered at the thought of the car crash, remembering standing outside her dance studio as she saw her parents and Alex driving to get her, when all of a sudden a lorry careered out of nowhere and the screams. The bloodcurdling screams. She still wasn't over it.⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"How did she die?" Mackenzie asked in a small squeak as she wiped another wave of tears from her sodden cheeks. Both police officers peered at her with small scowls on their faces since Mackenzie had been in the toilets when they'd told the tale of how she died.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"She was strangled, by a Rapunzel hair souvenir," Lexee interjected, sitting down on the ground below the sobbing Mackenzie and holding her hand, squeezing it slightly. The small brunette gave a strangled sob, which was ironic since it related to the death of her sister.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"Let it out Kenz," Alexander said in the most sympathetic voice he could, which wasn't that hard for him since he had three younger sisters at home, all below the age of 10, and he'd gotten used to using the tone on them when they were upset. Brynn always said that he was the best brother she'd ever seen, which was actually the first thing she'd ever said to him when they'd met at the park years ago. His heart had been captured in an instant by the pretty blonde, and his heart still was kept by her, under lock and key.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"Why haven't you found the fucking murderer yet?" Anna asked, looking at the police officers with a frown on her face. Everyone was surprised, since the girl never swore and to hear her say a filthy word meant that something was really wrong with the situation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"Don't push them, it's hard to find a murderer," Nathan said from his position near the window, staring out onto the landscape beyond the window. His face was blank and pale and in all honesty Brynn, Alexander, Lexee and Chloe were quite worried about him, especially since he'd been so full of life earlier.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"The weird one's right. The murderer hasn't left any obvious clues in the murder and we have no leads. It's a game of waiting," one of the officers said with the smallest of sighs. She seemed to be nicer than the officers that had been here before, and seemed honestly concerned for everyone's safety.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"Who's gonna die next then," Eva said with a sigh, running her hand through her hair. She'd been quiet so far, but seemed to have finally found her tongue. The murders had changed everyone more than had been expected.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀Soon after that most of them left to go get food, since they hadn't eaten for a while, only Nathan and Chloe stayed behind. The brunette girl had tried to convince her best friend to stay but Lexee said that even in times of crisis like this she needed food. Lexee was always hungry and Chloe had been surprised that she hadn't gone down for food before now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"Nathan, are you okay?" Chloe, who was still sitting on the bed, brow creased in worry, looked over at Nathan, who hadn't moved from his position by the door. The boy turned round and it was only then that Chloe saw the tears in his eyes and the redness of his face and eyes, obviously from an excess of crying.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"I loved her. Maddie. I loved Maddie," he said with tears flowing down his cheeks, walking over to Chloe and setting himself down onto the bed next to her. Chloe was taken aback, and her jaw lay in a heap on the ground as she watched Nathan place his head in his hands.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"Don't cry, please, you can't cry. Life has to go on."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀Nathan didn't answer, tears still flowing as Chloe calmly passed him a tissue. "Thanks," he said gratefully as he wiped the free falling tears from his cheeks.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀Silence hung around them for a few moments as both sat there thinking about the tragic deaths that had graced their life's, and tears begun to well in Chloe's eyes as well.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"We really do need to find this murderer," Chloe whispered in a voice that was barely audible, after a moments. The boy slowly twisted his head to face hers and nodded slowly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀"I know."
