CHARLOTTE sighed as she sat down on the train bench, turning to look out the window. It was another year at Hogwarts, away from home and the manor house. She always felt alone and trapped there, but at least she didn't get abused.

Lost in her thought, Charlotte had just closed her eyes, but reopened them as a loud noise occurred. Cursing mentally, she checked in the direction of the noise. And then cursed again. Opposite her was her two friends, Juliet Parkinson and Rick Nott. Although annoyed, she got up to greet them anyway.
"How was your summer?" Juliet asked as the trio sat back down again. Charlotte had always been jealous of Juliet's looks, with slightly tanned skin, chocolatey hair and deep brown eyes to match. She also happened to be tall, something Charlotte was not.
"Same as usual. Yours?" Charlotte replied.
"Fabulous," Rick replied, cutting Juliet off before she could even start. Charlotte laughed, and started to feel better already. Rick looked similar to Juliet, with a lot more height, making Charlotte feel very much like a five-year-old.

Charlotte listened to their conversations, eventually falling asleep to the sound of their voices and the rush of the train as it moved to Hogwarts

Charlotte had always thought Hogwarts was magnificent, like a place from one of those Muggle Disney movies. She liked the inside of the castle even more, and could spend days looking around. In fact, she often wondered why Hogwarts didn't become a tourist attraction too, and set up school elsewhere in the country.

However, Hogwarts had its flaws, mostly known as the students. Now, don't get Charlotte wrong. Most of the students themselves were actually great people. But they tended to take house honour very seriously, and it just so happened to be that Charlotte's house, Slytherin, was seen as villainous. Charlotte could see where they were coming from; many dark wizards were alumni of the house. But to Charlotte, those people were her parents, her friends. The current Slytherins, from Charlotte in her final year to the kid who'd just gotten sorted into the house, were actually very sweet and sympathetic. It was just no one bothered to take the time to get to know them. And when people are suddenly booing at you as soon as you enter that house and hate you throughout your time at the school; well, of course you're going to want to do the same back.

And, for some reason, it was mainly the Gryffindors that had a large amount of hate for the Slytherins. Charlotte had no clue as to why this was the case, but she found them annoying too, in earnest. Charlotte didn't know very many Gryffindors who'd been kind to Slytherins, but at least 99% had decided Slytherins were horrid and hostile.

If only they knew the truth.
