Kimberly's P.O.V:
I stood in my best friend's yard. Leo had lived next door to me for as long as I can remember. He had always been there for me. When I was upset, he was always there to cheer me up. We were always together no matter what. The day I dreaded since he told me about it a few months ago, is here. I can't believe he's moving. He hugged me close as I sob in his chest.
"Leo, come on! Time to go! We'll visit soon!" Nellie, his mom called while getting in the van.
Hearing those words, made me want to cry harder, "Do you have to go?" I managed to get out in between sobs.
"Yes. I'm sorry it has to be this way." his voice trembled as he cried.
"When will I see you again? What if I don't like my new neighbors? Who am I gonna be crazy with? Who am I going to tell all my secrets to? Leo, I need you," I cry, worrying more and more about what life will be like without Leo living next door.
"I know, I know, it'll be hard, but we'll always be best friends and don't you worry. I'll try to call you as much as possible," he tried to assured me.
I took a deep breathe. He's right. I'll see him again. He supposed to move back in a few years, but in a few years, we won't be kids anymore. We'll have to go to high school then. High school would be a scary place. I hugged him tighter.
"Make a promise to me, okay? Promise that when I get back you'll remember me and that you won't ever replace me,"he said trying to calm down.
" I promise, but you have to promise to come back."I said crying harder.
Before he could answer, Nellie called for him again.
"No! Leo, don't leave me!!!" I sobbed, burying my head in Leo's chest and wrapping my arms around him tighter.
Leo gave me one last squeeze, kissed my cheek lightly. He pushed my arms away as I tried to hold on, as if that would keep him from leaving. Once he was free, he ran to the car without looking back. I'll never see him again. The thought made me cry harder. I watched their van go down the street for the last time. My best friend is gone forever.I was almost 13 years old and I was already losing by best friend. I laid down in the grass, still in his yard for the rest of the day. My mom tried to tell me to come inside for lunch, but I refused. I wanted Leo back.
"Honey," my mom knelt down next to me stroking my hair,"You'll see Leo again. We already discussed that you could keep in touch with him.
"But I don't want to keep in touch with him!! I want him here!!!" I shouted.
My mom went back inside. The day dragged on to evening as I sat and cried some more. My mom picked me up and basically had to drag me inside, when it got dark.
"You can call Leo tomorrow,"my mom assured me.
I bit my lip.
