[a/n]:* keep in mind that everett and evan grew up in the south
All right everyone, let me begin by saying how sorry I am for delaying an update for like ever. I have been preoccupied with school, sports, and other personal things that I haven't had the chance to really get into any of my works. However, summer break has started and I am in desperate need to publish some more chapters/books and I intend on writing some more this summer. Truly sorry for having you all wait this long, but I think it is time for Trespassing to come to an end. It seems this book is a little on the shorter side of chapters, and I expect the book to end with 23 chapters and an epilogue, or maybe 22 chapters with an epilogue. There will also be an explanation for where I intend to go from here after the epilogue, so stay tuned. Thank you all for reading this far and continuously voting/commenting, it means a lot to me♥

Chapter 21. A Turn of Events

Their guns are pointed towards the house, every square inch of the cabin is surrounded. One of the heavily armored men with a sniper yells, "Come out with your hands up!" Everett drops my hand and I look at him, astonished. He strides towards the front door, placing his rifle upon the floor. My eyes well up with tears.

"Everett, stop!" I croak, but he keeps walking.

His hand reaches for the door, but I run up from behind him and place my hand on top of his.

"Don't do this," I whisper.

He swallows visibly and glances over at me.

"I can't drag you down with me, Clove, now run," he whispers, prying my hand off of him.

And before I could issue another protest, he opens the door and falls to his knees with his hands in the air.

48 hours earlier...

Everett lays out two plates of eggs and glasses of water for the both of us to eat for breakfast. When placing my plate in front of me, he leans over and places a kiss upon my forehead. My cheeks burn up and I peer up at him curiously.

"What was that for?" I smile and he shrugs, sitting down across from me.

"Just glad you're alive," he elaborates, taking a bite of his food.

The corner of my lips turn upwards into a small grin as Everett smiles back, his enchanting eyes distracting me from my breakfast. Our little moment of clarity is interrupted by Evan barging into the kitchen and belching after having taken a swig of his beer. Everett's smile fades and he rolls his eyes at his brother, his features appearing vexed as he takes another bite of his eggs.

"Little early for a drink, don't you think?" Everett points out.

Evan slides into the seat beside me and plops his drink onto the table with a thud. His eyes glance between us both and he lets out a dry laugh.

"Little early to be trying to get some, don't you think?" Evans raises a brow with a devious smirk.

I bit the inside of my cheek to refrain from saying something I would regret. Taking a peek over at Everett, I notice his grasping onto his fork a little too tightly. Evan points to the uneaten eggs on his brother's plate and grabs a few of the scrambled eggs from the dish with his hands, dropping them into his mouth.

Everett's jaw clenches.

"Well, I better get going. I gotta get some deer or something for dinner later," Evan says, standing from the table and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
