[a/n]: hey guys! So I'm back from the temporary hiatus! Thanks for being patient :) I made this a long chapter as a gift to you all for having to wait so long xx
R E C A P:
Clover got separated from her parents on their annual camping trip by falling down an enormous cliff and getting lost for quite a while. On her journey to search for a way back up the hill and back to her family, she crosses paths with mysterious man named "Caleb" who actually lied about his name! "Caleb" is actually named Everett, and questions fly between the two of them. After coming to an agreement, the two of them have decided to help one another out for a while, they find living in a small cabin with a vegetarian and a blunt, and rather bitter man can be very difficult. When Everette finds out that Clover dislocated her shoulder, he pops it back into place for her, and in return of the pain he inflicts on her, she turns around and slaps him.ps - this ending kinda sucks, sorry xx
Chapter 6. Expeditions for Beginners
His facial features seem shocked at my actions and he moves his jaw around, slowly placing his hand to his face to massage the place where I slapped him forcefully. With a narrowing of the eyes, he turns to glare at me and I shrink under his intimidating stature. He sighs in irritation, but waves the matter off nonetheless.
"I helped you, you know." he grumbles.
"Sorry, it was an instinct to hit the person who hurt me.." I sheepishly shrug.
"Well, I suppose that's a good instinct for when you're out here, huh?" Everett murmured, more to himself than me.
"Why did you put your hand over my mouth? I was in pain, jerk!" I frown.
"Because if I let you scream, the whole forest would've heard you. Then we would have everyone like David comin' around here."
"How does your shoulder feel?" He adds when I don't respond.
Moving my arm in a circular formation to test things out, I wince slightly when a small pain erupts. My shoulder feels much better now, but it's just a little sore, now. Upon telling Everett this, he nods and grabs his shotgun from the wall, throwing the strap around his neck and swiveling the weapon around his effortlessly so it lay on his back.
"Now that you're feeling better, we need to get to work."
"Work, as in?" I furrow my brows.
"As in, finding your family."
"Oh, yeah, right."
Everett leads me out of the small cabin and shuts the door behind us. The cold air whips around us both and bites my tinted cheeks, sending a shiver down my spine. Everett places his hands in his pockets to keep them warm and I shove my own hands into my jacket as we begin our journey through the vastness of the rather enticing forest.
"Why on earth would'ya be camping in November?" Everett mumbles.
"Ask my parents." I murmur back.
"I will when we find 'em," he claims.
-
After we traipse around for about two hours with no luck in finding any way to get up the large mountain that seems to be surrounding the entire forest, I groan in frustration and come to a stop when we reach a large oak tree that has fallen over. Sitting myself down, I rub my hands together and fan them with my hot breath in attempt to keep warm. Everett pulls out an old canteen and begins to drink from it, handing it to me afterwards. I take a gulp of the refreshing water and give it back to the owner.
