Humans And Supremacy.

The amount of importance humans place in themselves always makes me cringe. We have made ourselves to be some kind of supreme beings who could defeat nature singlehandedly - that too unarmed. However, we couldn't be any further from the truth. Nature is a force to be reckoned with. The universe is vast, literally bigger than anything we have ever seen or experienced. The harsh, unforgiving truth is that on the scale of the universe, we do not matter. Have you ever thought about it? The earth is a mere speck when seen just from the boundary of the solar system, it would be utterly insignificant in the universe. And we are specs of dirt on the earth. In Carl Sagan's words, everyone we love, hate, admire, disprove of, on that tiny speck suspended on a sunbeam. Moreover, we don't even know if intelligent or even more intelligent and older life forms exist in some corner of the universe. (Are we there yet, SETI?)

And who claims that humans are the most superior beings, even on planet earth? We claim to be the wisest beings on planet earth. Do wise beings try to destroy the only place where they know they can exist? So, you see, we are just a bunch of dundering idiots trying to destroy our chances of existing along with that of a million or so other species who have not done anything wrong to begin with.

What I want to say is, we are not supreme in any way. Yes. I just said that. Wonder why I said so? The answer lies with us. We are neither the fastest, nor the strongest. We aren't the biggest beings to walk on the earth. We do not live for more than, say, a hundred and eighteen years at maximum. We are not agile. Not great swimmers, either. We do not have herd sense, which can actually help in moments of crisis. We are despicable beings, the only beautiful thing we might have being our brains, which aren't so intelligent, by the way, or they would have long understood the importance of co-operation.

And no, don't even get me started on the issue of humanity. It only exists when we want it to exist. We are nothing but animals and we behave so when we are at the worse phases of life. We cannot talk about humanity as long as we know that Homo sapiens sapiens can turn cannibalistic in certain conditions. Humanity, in reality can never be what sets us apart from other animals, because it has been an idea fed to us deliberately so we can get satisfaction from not having wings, fins, beautiful bodies, or predatory instinct.

The point is, we think of ourselves as superior beings unnecessarily. This type of thought needs to be corrected immediately, or else we will be doomed, just like certain reptiles who roamed this planet as if they ruled it, only to be wiped out by a lifeless comet. After all, history is certain to repeat itself to bring balance in nature and among our egos.
