Humans. We are supposed to be the wisest. The most humane. Ha. We wish we were. Like I like to stress, we are but cruel animals other wonderful creatures had the misfortune of sharing the only planet known to have life with. Like other animals, we cannot get away from our packs. Like other animals, we feel uncomfortable when members of other packs enter our so-called territories. But while other animals feel this discomfort out of a need to protect their young and weak, humans just have a bad case of neophobia.
And what do we do to cure this phobia? We do the thing that comes the easiest to us. We discriminate, of course. We discriminate on the basis of a person's colour, something that is genetically determined. We discriminate people on the basis of religion and sexuality, both of which are extremely personal. We even discriminate people on their mother tongue and the place/region/country they hail from, none of which can be bloody chosen! We are, in reality, worse than high school bullies. We want to be vicious and bitchy about other people's shortcomings so that nobody discovers our differences from the crowd. We do such things only so that we are not targeted.
But why do we have to do this? Why are some people asked to move to the back of the bus? Why are some people still not allowed to fetch water from community wells? Why are children bullied by other children when they learn that they do not share the same mother tongues? Why do people turn their nose upon others not from their own religion? Why should your nationality predict which grades you get? Why is terror spread under the name of cleansing the world from certain sects? Why is it so that it is your pay check which decides how people talk to you, not your demeanour, your qualities?
Tell me when you know the answers, my curiosity remains unsatisfied.
