Chapter seventeen

"No but mommy why?" I felt the back of her hand against my already swollen cheek, making me whimper as I fell to my knees. She still hasn't answered me why I was to go with the strange men who were coming. "Because you worthless little bitch there is no reason for me to have you, you were a mistake. Now shut up, they should be here any minute." My mom said patting down her dress, I didn't like the thought of having to leave my mom and dad or my sister.m

My mom yanked on my hair pulling me up, "Dammit look now you got mud all over your dress." I felt sharp pain rush through my body as she started kicking me making me fall to the floor again keeping a tight grip on my hair. I hear a man cough behind my mom making her stop. I couldn't see who it was or point out where he was, everything was blurry and looked the same. "I see you two have said goodbye, here is your money. Jackson get the girl, I don't have all night." A felt two pair of hands grab on to my sides pulling me up off the floor, the pain seemed to double making me cry.

We were walking now, walking away from someone, someone I believe to be my mom. I felt cold leather under me as I was set into a car. The tall figure standing infront of me seemed to be saying something, "Little girl wake up, its okay just wake up." Everything started to grow dark, and the voice grew louder and more clear.

"Thats it good girl," I rub my eyes, opening one to look around. There was an old man sitting beside me, he had a beanie on his head covering his grey hair, and was wearing old torn clothing that looked dirty. He had a beard that reminded me of Santa Claus. Looking around i realize we were on a sidewalk in front of an old building.

"You hungry, I know its not much but its all I got." The man reached behind him handing me a can with a spoon in it. I take it looking at him strangely, "If its all you got why give it to me?" He laughed leaning back against the old building, "You seem to need it more, and it would be rude not to share. Please eat it really isn't a bother." I scrunch up my nose swallowing the slimey food. I continued to eat the strange food ignoring the horrid taste, I was to hungry to care.

"My name is Dennis what's yours?" I smiled at him, "Mary, Dennis where is your home?" He smiled at me, "This is my home." I shook my head at him setting the can down between us. "This is not a home, this is a sidewalk, where is your mommy and daddy?"

"This is a home for me," he picks the can up placing it behind him, "and I don't know where my parents are just like I'm guessing you don't?" I nod my head at him laying both my hands on my lap. "Well don't worry sweetheart we can take care of each other for now and I can try and help you find your parents, sound good?"

"But my parents don't want me they gave me away," I look down at my hand's playing with my fingers. "I'm sure they still want you, who wouldn't want such a sweet little girl to be there daughter." I giggled looking at Dennis, he smiled at me pulling a blanket around me. "Okay come on now we need to rest tomorrow we begin our adventure."
