FBI

I got up and changed into this.
And went downstairs and made a cup of coffee.
I sat down with pops and dad after giving them both a kiss on their cheek.
I had been thinking a lot on the job offer the FBI had made me after I took down Omir.
I guess I was in a trance like state until dad waved his hand in front of my face.
"Penny for your thoughts." He said.
"I'm just thinking." I said and smiled at him.
He smiled and kissed my head as he got up.
"Well, I have to go to work so you can think." He said and patted pops on the shoulder and left.
Pops and I were drinking coffee in silence.
Until I stood up.
He looked at me.
"I have to go." I said and left before he could ask any questions.
I drive to the FBI building and walked in.
I was given a visitor pass.
I went to the directors office and knocked.
I heard a faint 'come in.'
I opened the door and when he looked up he stood.
"Lt. Reagan. To what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked.
"You offered me a job." I said.
"I did." He said.
"What would that be exactly?" I asked.
"Are you saying what I think your saying?" He asked.
"I don't know." I said.
"Well you would be an FBI Special Agent Solving murders all over the U. S. some undercover work." He explained.
I thought about it.
"I need to think about it a little bit more." My phone rang, it was Danny so I ignored it. "But I will let you know by the end of the night." I told him.
I stood when he did and we shook hands and I let myself out.
I went to Nikki's school and I went to the office.
"Hi, can I sign out Nicole Reagan?" I asked the secretary.
"I'm sorry ma'am but only family is allowed to check students out." She said.
"I am family. I'm her aunt." I said. "Here." I said showing her my army credentials.
She studied them for a moment and looked at me.
"Ok." She said and called Nikki down to the office.
When she got here she glared at me.
"What are you doing here, aunt Alison." She asks.
"I'm saving you." I said and she looked worried. We walked out of the school.
"Of dying of boredom." I said before she could ask what was wrong. She smiled the quickly covered it up.
"I'm still mad at you." She said matter of factly.
"I know. But would it make you feel better to know why I failed my test?" I asked.
"Yeah. I guess." She tried to act cool about it. But I could see that she really wanted to know.
I told her and she freaked out.
"Oh my god. Are you serious. This is...wow." She said.
"Now you can see why I haven't told anyone." I said.
"Yeah. Do you think-" she trailed off.
"No." I said automatically. My phone rang again and I saw that it was Danny.
I gave Nikki the phone.
"What do you want me to do?" She asked when she saw the id.
"Answer it." I said and shrugged.
"Hello?" She answered.
'Who is- Nikki? Nikki is that you?" Danny asks
"Yeah, uncle Danny its me." She said.
'Ok. Why aren't you in school?' He asks.
"Um. I don't know what you're talking about." I said.
'Really? Ok, then where's aunt Allie?' He asks.
"I don't know. I'm mad at her the last time I saw her was yesterday." She said.
'Really? Then why did you answer her phone?' He asks and I hold my hand out knowing I'm busted.
"You have reached the voicemail box of Lt. Alison Reagan please leave your name and number after the beep. Unless your Danny then you can wait until I want to talk to you." I said and Nikki was dying of laughter.
'Yeah, cute. Does Erin know know that you have Nikki?' He asks.
"Nope." I said.
'You do know that's considered kidnapping, right?' He said.
"No not kidnapping. I always do this when I get home from deployment. I just hadn't gotten around to it until today." I defended.
'Tell Erin that you have her. That's not why I called.' He said.
"I know. But why did you call?" I asked.
'I wanted to know if you had gotten the test redone.' He said.
"Nope. Not yet." I answered. "Well if that's all."
'No, no don't you hang-' he was cut off when I hung up.
I turned to Nikki.
"Looks like I have to call your mom Danny threatened to arrest me." I said.
I called Erin and she answered.
"So Erin how much do you love me?" I ask.
'Why?' She asks suspiciously.
"Because I just wanted you to know that me and Nikki are spending a day together like we used to." I said.
'No, that's impossible. She's at school.' She said. I pointed the phone towards Nikki and she got the message.
"Hi mom." She said.
'Nikki? You took her out of school, Alison?' She asked me.
"I just wanted a day with my niece and I usually right after a deployment but I haven't got around to it until now." I once again defended.
'Uggh. Fine. But this taking her out of school does not go past today. Do you understand me, Alison?' She asks.
"Yes. Erin I understand. But this my our own little tradition for every time I come home." I said.
'I know that's why I'm not mad. Have fun and tell Nikki I love her. And I love you.' She said.
"I love you too." I said and hung up.
"Your mom says she loves you and that since this is our tradition we're not even in trouble." I told Nikki and she smiled.
My phone rang.
"I really need to turn this thing off." I say and she laughs.
"Lt. Reagan." I say and she stops laughing knowing it's the army.
'Lt. Reagan when would be a good time for you to redo your test?' The lady asks.
"Um. Now would be perfect." I told her.
'Ok. We will see you in a few minutes.'
I hung up and Nikki looked worried.
"Have I ever taken you on the army base?" I ask her.
She shakes her head no.
"Well, what do you say we go. And after I get my test redone I will show you around." I said and smiles and nods.
I smile. And lead her out of the store.
We arrive on base and I show my credentials to the front gate and they let us in.
We go straight medical.
I walk up to a lady.
"Hi. Excuse me. I talked to a lady on the phone about my blood test being redone. I'm Lt. Reagan." I say Nikki is beside me looking at all the soldiers on beds.
"Yes. I talked to you on the phone. Right this way." She said.
I followed her to a room and she saw Nikki following us and made a move to stop her.
"She's with me." I said and she let Nikki in.
Nikki sat on an extra chair while I sat on the gurney waiting for the nurse.
"What was wrong with all those people out there?" She asked. I looked at her.
"They are who were injured and came back to the U.S. to have surgery at a hospital then transported here for rehab. Kind of." I said.
"All of them?" She asks incredulously and I nod my head. Just then the nurse comes back with the equipment.
I hold out my arm and draws the blood.
I get up.
"I will run the test immediately and let you know the results." She said and I nodded.
I lead Nikki out of the room and I gave her a tour of the base I even got us a ride in a tank and blow up an explosive and shoot a gun.
"That was so cool!" She said when we got in the car.
"I'm glad you had fun." I told her smiling.
We arrived at dads house for Sunday dinner and I still hadn't heard from the nurse.
We walked in and sat at the table.
"Did you have fun with Aunt Alison?" Erin asked Nikki.
"Uh yeah." She said as if it was obvious. "First we went shopping then she gave me a tour of the army base-"
"Really? Did you get your test done?" Danny asked.
"Yeah."
"And?" He pushed.
"And I haven't heard back yet." I said.
"Then we rode in a tank, then we blew up-"
I cleared my throat trying to get her to stop before she got us both killed.
"Aunt Alison?" Sean asked.
"Yeah buddy?" I asked.
"Why didn't you take us with you to the army base?" He asked sounding hurt.
"I promise the next time I go I will take you and your brother and we will do the same exact things I did with Nikki. Ok?" I said.
"You guys will love it. Shooting machine guns-"
I coughed really loud once again trying to get her to stop.
Erin stood up and Danny was trying not to laugh.
"Alison why don't you come help me with dessert?" She asked but I knew I wasn't a question.
"You know? I don't think I'm done with the main course yet. So I'm gonna have to pass." I said trying to get out of it.
"Alison. Dessert. Now." She demanded.
"Ok. Well it looks like I'm going to go help with dessert." I said getting up from the table.
I slap Danny on the side of the head because he was silently laughing the whole time. Which makes everyone at the table laugh.
I made it to the kitchen Erin was leaning against the sink waiting for me.
"When I said have fun with Nikki, I meant take her to a movie or shopping, or go out to eat. Not let ride in a tank, shoot machine guns, and blow stuff up." She yelled at me.
"I know you're angry-"
"No. I skipped angry and went straight to pissed when she mentioned blowing stuff up." She yelled.
"Ok. What do you want me to say? That I'm sorry? Fine. I'm sorry. The only reason we were there was because I had to get my test done and she wanted to look around." I tried to stay calm.
My phone rang.
"We are not done." She said walking back in the dining room.
"Lt. Reagan." I answered.
"Yes ma'am." I said.
"I understand ma'am." I say then hang up.
I grab my keys then walk out the door ignoring Danny yelling after me.
I pull into the FBI parking lot. And I walk inside and get another visitor pass.
I once again go to the directors office and knock.
He says come in and he stands when he sees me.
"Lt. Reagan here to decide I presume." He says.
"Yeah." I told him about my blood test.
"I wish to stay in the field until it becomes a problem." I told him
"I agree. Welcome to the FBI. I will have someone show you to your office. You will receive your badge and gun Tuesday when you start." He says and someone comes in and shows me to a great office.
I go home and once again I see everyone waiting for me.
"Where were you? You left your phone on the counter and just left." Danny yelled.
"I needed to do something." I said.
"What? What did you need to do?" He asked.
"I got my blood test back." I say and he shut up. I look at Nikki.
"It wasn't a mistake." I said and shake my head at Nikki telling her not to tell.
I see her nod and I go upstairs.
The next morning I left the house and go straight to the army base.
Once I get there I go to my commanding officers office.
I knocked and he said come in.
"What can I do for you Lt.?" He asks.
"I would to join the army reserves, sir." I told him.
He looks up at me. "Are you sure?" He asks and I nod my head.
He hands me the paperwork and I sign it and hand it back to him.
He stands and salutes me I stand and salute back.
He walks around the desk and hugs me.
"I have known a lot of soldiers. But none of them have the skill set that you do." He said. "You are a great loss. And will be missed."
"Who knows I might come back one day." I said
"Maybe." He said.
I left the office and went home and went to bed.
