"Would you rather lose your sex organs or have your lips cut off?" Asks Aubrey. A/N she has a partner for the FBI and she is partnered with Bones. James Aubrey is from the FBI.
"Your 11 year old daughter plays this game?" I ask trying not to laugh at him as he holds up his hand.
"She has questions like would you rather the power of invisibility or flight." He said walking beside me.
"Alright, stop." I said trying to get the game to end.
"You're just stumped." He said and put down his bag as I sighed.
"Flight." I said turning around to face him.
"You got to say why." He said after I made no move to explain my answer.
"So I could fly into work and not have to play this stupid game with you." I said to his smiling face he laughed.
"You're a natural." He said then turned to another agent. "Deeks?"
"Hmm" he hummed in acknowledgment.
"Power of invisibility or flight?" He asked him making Deeks look up.
"Umm... hmm, I don't know. I don't know, that's a good one." He said and Aubrey looked at me so I took a few steps towards Deeks.
"Did you sleep at the hospital again last night?" I ask him referring to his girlfriend who was injured in the line of duty.
Deeks looked at me.
"Uh..yeah." He answered.
"How is she?" Aubrey asks Deeks.
"You know, she's uh...she's the same. She's better." He said.
"Better, that's good." Aubrey pointed out when Deeks sounded almost sad.
"Yeah, I know it is." He said.
"So would you rather have no knees or no elbows?" Asks the tech guy, Eric. "Aubrey?"
"Mm." Aubrey grunts thinking.
"You stumped?" I asked teasing Aubrey.
"No elbows, that way I could still run and shoot." He said.
"Wrong answer." I said looking at him. "No elbows, you can't put food in your mouth. You starve, you die." I explain.
"Touché Reagan. We got a case." He said going back up to ops.
"So I win?" I ask Aubrey before we go up to ops. "Huh? It's beginners luck."
"So the person posing as fish food is NSA analyst Ted Larson. His remains were found in the stomach of a 12ft great white that was caught in a fisherman's net of the coast of Hunningtons Beach yesterday morning." Explained Nelle as we entered ops.
"From digestion can we tell when he was eaten?" Aubrey asks.
"According to Dr. Miller, who found the body, 12-24 hours ago." She said.
"Where was Larson last seen?" Asked the director.
"He was on assignment in San Diego with his superior NSA Bruce Carter, but the NSA hasn't heard from Carter." She answered and I looked to the screen.
"I was able to track him to an apartment in Long Beach." Eric inputs.
"Why hasn't he been checking in?" I ask and Aubrey nodded.
"Something's off." He said.
"Find Carter before he moves again." Deeks, Aubrey, and I go to leave. "And.." we turn back around. "stay out of the water."
With that Aubrey and I leave to go find Carter.
We park the the car and get out.
"Ok, would you rather be eaten alive by a shark or a giant squid?" I ask Aubrey who smiles.
"I'm sorry I taught you this game." He says making me laugh.
"Hey, Carter left the apartment. He's with a woman headed directly towards you." Eric said through our coms.
"At least we know they haven't been eaten by a giant fish." Aubrey says after we spot them.
"Bruce Carter? Agent Reagan," I said and showed him my badge. "FBI."
"Are you ok? What's going on?" Aubrey questions looking at him and the girl.
"Can I see your ID?" Carter asks Aubrey causing Aubrey to discreetly show him his badge.
"Ok, we need to keep moving." Carter says to the girl.
"Whoa. Slow down a second." I said.
"We're here to help." Aubrey assured.
I saw the girl nod to Carter.
"Uh, ok. Yeah, lets find somewhere private we can talk." He said reluctantly looking behind him making me look to Aubrey. "Lets go over here."
We followed him to a stair well and stopped.
"And you are?" Aubrey asks the women while shutting the door.
"Jolene Townsend, NSA financing account analyst." She answered.
"You know one of our co-workers was found inside of a shark this morning." Carter said.
"That's why we're here." Aubrey said.
"And another analyst has been missing for 3 days, Gary Dill." Carter explained.
"Any idea why this is happening?" Aubrey asks Carter.
"We were in San Diego because we discover an ISIS cell in Mexico trying to get over the border. Dill and Larson tracked them from Syria to Germany to Mexico, Emails, texts, phone conversations." Carter explained.
"Then they realized ISIS had discovered their surveillance and somehow they tracked it back to Dill and Larson." Townsend cut in.
"If an ISIS cell found Larson, it would easy for them to extract information from him." Carter said.
"What kind of information?" I ask the 2 NSA agents.
"Our names." Townsend said after sharing a look with Carter.
"ISIS going after NSA analysts, that's audacious." Said Aubrey.
"Our intelligence indicates they are trying to move at least a dozen agents across the border." Carter supplies.
"What about this other analyst, Dill? You think he's dead too?" I ask them.
"He hasn't responded to any communication." Carter answers.
"Ok," Aubrey says and takes a breath. "We'll take you into protective custody."
"We're not staying in New York." Carter says shaking his head.
"You want to escort us to the airport, that would be helpful, but we're going back to Washington, today." Townsend said.
"Ok, whatever we can do to help." I said. "Eric? We're looking for a Gary Dill, NSA, he's a tech. Why don't you see if you can find him here or in San Diego."
A car came into the parking lot and rolled down the window revealing a gun.
"Gun, move! Get down, get down!" Aubrey shouted to the NSA agents as we pushed them behind the car while we drew our guns.
During the fire fight Aubrey got one causing the others to retreat.
"Anybody hit?" Aubrey asked.
"No, we're ok." Carter said.
"You call this ok?" Townsend replies.
I took a picture of our dead guy to send to Eric.
"Aubrey, Reagan. No sign of the shooters car on any of the traffic cams." Eric said.
"I'm sending you a head shot, get me an ID." I replied.
"Larson and Dill had access to all of our personal records. Home addresses, my husbands name, he could have pulled pictures of my kids off facebook." Townsend told Aubrey.
"Ok, we're moving now." Carter says walking up, just hanging up the phone. "NSA security set up a pickup location."
"Wait a minute, this was a shooting incident, we need to speak to you." Aubrey informs him.
Townsend glance at Carter.
"This is a classified case, our agency has taken care of our security." He says and turns to walk away but Aubrey grabs his arm. "Let me go. Let me go."
"Let him go, Aubrey." The director said.
"Alright." Aubrey said reluctantly.
We go back to the FBI building and up to ops.
"Using facial recognition we found a man who matches Gary Dills description." Nelle started when we walked in. "He was court ordered into a New York department of mental health hospital to face evaluation after indecent exposure charges. He was admitted under the name Noah Leipzig."
"This happened 3 days ago, same time Larson disappeared." Deeks put in.
"We sure it's him?" Aubrey asks.
"No, but an NSA analyst could have the resources to backstop a fake identity." Eric says.
"Find out if it's real." The director said.
"Did the NSA share any other information about this ISIS cell?" Aubrey asks.
"Radio silence. They might be closing ranks after the security breach." The director answered.
"We shouldn't wait, if ISIS operatives are in New York going after NSA agents," I started.
"They're protecting the large operation." Aubrey finished.
"We have to go undercover at that hospital." I said.
"If he is there, we can get close to him. See what he knows about this ISIS cell." Aubrey continues.
"Ok, flag in the play, intentional grounding. Neither one of you can pull off crazy." Deeks pointed out.
"You're not going in Deeks." The director said.
"What? What are you talking about? Homeless Arty, he hears voices, has ptsd." Deeks objected.
"Even without Homeless Arty, Deeks is perfect for this assignment." Aubrey encouraged.
"He's not wrong." Deeks agreed making me chuckle.
"He has a personal obligation at the moment. No deep cover ops." The director finalized.
I nodded my head.
"Aubrey will go in." I said.
"Me?" Aubrey said in shock. "Your the one that has the most experience." Aubrey argued and I looked at him.
"Reagan, you do have issues." The director said making me look at him.
"Excuse me?" I said and Aubrey was silently laughing.
"I have access to your personal file, your psych evaluations," the director continued.
"Knew it." Aubrey said pointing at me.
"You're going in. Get her backdropped into the system." The director told Nelle and Eric.
"Throw in a court ordered psych evaluation for a double murder." Deeks said.
"With a history of killing small animals." Eric said.
"That's so Reagan." Nelle said while I stood there with a 'what the hell' look on my face.
"Good luck." Said the director before leaving.
After he left I pulled out my cell phone.
"Who are you calling?" Aubrey asks me.
"Bones, because it looks like I won't be home for dinner tonight." I said.
'Hey, Reagan' he answered.
"Hey Bones." I said.
'Do we have a case?' He asks
"Uh, no. No, we don't have a case for you, um... I'm going undercover." I said pulling the bandaid off.
'What? Where? For how long?' He asks worried.
"I can't tell you where, and I don't know how long." I answered truthfully.
'Wha-' he stops himself.
"I just- I wanted you to hear it from me so it wasn't sprung on you by Aubrey." I said.
'Why not tell me at home tonight? Why now?' He asks.
"Because I'm going to be leaving soon and it doesn't look like I'm going to be home tonight so you have to pick Brooke up from Pops before you go home." I tell him.
'Yeah, ok. I'll get her.' He reassured me.
"Hey, I have to go. I'll talk to you as soon as I can. I love you so much. Tell Brooke I love her." I say.
'Yeah, I will. Be careful out there.' He said. 'And Allie,'
"Yeah?" I asked.
'I love you too.' He said and I smiled.
"Bye." I said and hung up.
Shortly after I called Bones I was transported to the New York department of mental health hospital.
"There are no cellphones, alcoholic beverages, drugs, cigarettes, poison, glue, firearms, weapons, cameras, recording devices, or pets allowed. We find them, it's a crime. And you will be prosecuted." Said the man who entered me into the system as Jessie Davis.
I entered the game room looking for Dill, when I spotted him writing in a journal. I walk out of the room so he doesn't know I'm on to him.
I was looking for a way to get Dill to trust me when I saw someone buy a phone.
After he had the phone I followed him when he walked away. He stopped to make fun of another patient and I took the opportunity to pick his pocket and steal the phone.
I opened the phone and looked at what the phones number was then shut the phone.
I walked up to the nurses station.
"I'd like to make a phone call." I said to the man who entered me into the system.
He swiped a card and picked up a scanner.
"You have a hour for the week." He informs me. "Put your ID badge here." He says and I show him my bracelet so he can scan it.
He put the phone on the counter.
"Lines running, go ahead."
I move to the phone and called the number of the phone I had stolen and hid under the mattress of Dills bed.
When no one answered I got worried so I went to his room and saw the man I stole the phone from pinning him against the wall.
I shove him off and he falls against one of the unused beds.
"Xantech dose a little low? Leave him alone." I said to the man.
"It's 3 on 1 B." The man said and one of his goons shut the door. I looked at them and shrugged.
"I'll take you all at once or one at a time." I said and the one closest to me swung a punch which I blocked and elbowed him in the nose. "I guess that makes it 2 on 1 B."
The one that closed the door put his hands up in a surrender motion and left the room.
"Guess it's just 1 on 1 B." I said.
He walked over to the guy I elbowed and helped him up before walking towards the door. "You stay away from my stuff." He said to Dill before he left.
I turned to face Dill.
"Thanks." Dill said shocked.
"I don't like bullies." I said. "Jessie Davis." I introduced my alias.
"Noah Leipzig."  He said. "It's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you Noah." I reciprocate.
The rest of the day went as normal as it could for being undercover in the the loony bin.
But by the next day, Friday, we had group therapy. Yay.
"But there are other patients that say that you are aggressive." The doctor said to the guy I stole the phone from.
"One mans aggression is another mans assertive." He replied shaking his head.
I was trying so hard not to blow my cover just to get out of this hell hole.
"Maybe instead of this, can we talk about getting the fooz ball table back?" Asks the guy I elbowed in the nose.
"Yeah, everybody really liked fooz ball. Besides who is saying I'm aggressive? I don't talk to half of you people." The man I stole from said aggressively.
"Fooz ball was causing arguments, so I removed it." The doctor said. "Ok, let's move on. Noah? Have you had any thoughts about the government?"
Dill looks around the room nervously.
"That was a private discussion from our session." Dill replies.
"It will help you to let it out publicly. So everyone here can help you with this." The doctor said. "Do you still think the government is trying to kill you?"
"Yes" Dill said after a moment. "Not the whole government, just some people in it."
"Why?" The doctor asked and I was watching like a game of tennis.
"I told you, I know things. Ok?" Dill asked nodding wanting the questions to end.
"But, how could you know secret things about the government, Noah? This is paranoia." The doctor says and Noah takes a breath.
"I don't think he's paranoid." I said and the doctor looks to his clipboard.
"Ms. Jessie Davis," he says and looks at me. "Welcome. Do you know Noah?"
"No, but I believe him." I said and looked to Noah then back to thee doctor. "And I think it's wrong your just dismissing him."
"We are working through our issues." He said.
"You are working through or your judging?" I asked. "What about your issues? Do you want to put them in the circle to have them picked apart and ridiculed? What about you, uh, Dr. Tanner? A slight build, I bet you got picked on when you were little, didn't you? But your parents didn't support you, and you came up with the whole superiority complex to try and cope with it." I raised my eyebrows at him. "How close am I?" I said while the 2 I had the disagreement with laughed.
I was in my room on Saturday reading a magazine when someone knocked on my door.
I looked up and saw Dill standing there.
"What you did yesterday, that was amazing." He said.
"Yeah, I don't think I'm going to get a very good evaluation." I said smiling. "Come on in. By the way, I know what you are feeling. I once thought my phone was tapped."
"It was." He said and I laughed.
" I don't think so." I said.
"No, I'm telling you, it was." He said serious.
"Why are they after you?" I asked.
"Like I said I know things." He said and shrugged.
"Are you in here because you're hiding from them?" I ask and he removes his glasses.
"Hey Jessie?" I hear at the door and I nearly yell at them to go away.
I look over and see the 2 guys I fought with at my door walking in. I stand along with Dill.
"I need to talk to both of you." He says.
"Then talk." I say.
The short one cut in looking at the tall one.
"Say it like we practiced." He said slowly.
"I just want to say, that I'm really sorry about how we met. Noah, I would never, ever bite your nose off. I'm not that kind of guy." He says.
"It's ok." Dill tells him.
"And you," he turns to me. Oh no. "Seem like such a great girl, I would just love to sit and talk and share our stories." He said and Dill had gone around them and was leaving.
"Share some stories sometime." I said distracted.
"Yeah?" The guy asks excited. "Yeah. Ok, cool. Cmon, give me a hug." He said and pulled me into a tight hug.
It was Sunday and I found Dill in the game room and started a game of cards with him.
"You got 2s and jacks." I said. "So what did you do to get in here?"
"Went shopping in Whole Foods naked." He said smiling. "I had no money for clothes after spending all of it on their food."
I laughed.
"You're not crazy at all." I concluded.
"You've got a 4, 5, 6, 7 run in hearts 3 kings and you need a 3 of spades for gin." He said and I checked my cards and he was right. "Your not crazy either. That's what scares me."
We see orderlies up ahead checking names on bracelets.
"Have you ever seen those guys before?" I ask Dill.
"No, never." He said confirming my fear. "Ok, look, I think I might need your help. My real name is-"
"Gary Dill." I said cutting him off. "You work for the NSA, my names Reagan, I work for the FBI."
"I was guessing CIA," he said and I nodded my head. "I discovered a coworker named Larson and his boss Jolene Townsend were stealing money from the bank account of a Mexican drug dealer, named Edwardo Vanealos."
"So, why are you hiding out?" I ask.
"Because I helped Larson break through the Mexican bank security. I thought it was an authorized NSA investigation." He explained.
"Turns out it was common thievery." I deadpanned.
"Well if you want to call $17 million dollars common." He said.
"Ok, so those guys aren't orderlies, huh?" I ask. "We have to get you out of here." I tell him.
We stand and go the opposite direction of the men checking IDs.
We try the exit but it's locked and the guard is dead inside. So we backtrack to the 2 guys that we befriended yesterday.
"We need your guys' help." I said.
"Hey, what are siblings for, right?" The tall one asks.
We told them the plan and they agreed.
We found a doctor that looked to be knocked out and walked in the room shutting the door and locked it behind us.
We could hear the men asking for Leipzig.
I looked around the room for something we could use and grabbed a pair of scissors.
The 2 guys were going to distract the men while we worked for a way out.
We hear the door knob jiggle and then a gun shoot the door knob.
I have the scissors in my hand waiting for them to come through.
They entered the room with their guns up.
"Don't move." One said as they made their way to us. "Let me see your hands."
We raise our hands and I still have the scissors in my right hand.
The second man takes the scissors out of my hand as the first man grabs Dills hand.
He looks at his patient bracelet and then pushes his hand away.
He then grabs my hand and looks at the name.
"Noah Leipzig or is it Agent Dill? Move." He asks me and starts to push me out of the room.
They lead me out of the hospital into a black cargo van and started driving.
Once I'm in the van I'm put into a metal box until we stop and the box is opened.
I see 3 men and one of them had a gun pointed at me.
"This is her, boss." I hear one of them say before they shut the lid and I feel myself be lifted.
I'm put down but I feel myself rocking along with the sound of an engine, I let myself assume that I was on a boat.
After about half an hour the engine cuts off and box is opened again, only this time I get pulled out of the box.
"Ms. Dill, do you like to fish?" Edwardo asks me.
"Not too much, the smell makes me a little queasy." I say.
"Ahh," he hums. "I like to fish, only I use humans as bait."
After he said that one of his henchmen started throwing blood and what I hoped was fish flesh into the water to attract sharks.
I looked at him, head to toe.
"You look like you'd make a supersize meal, why don't you jump in?" I ask him.
"You really want to make fat jokes?" He asks me.
"Ok, I didn't take your money." I said. "Ok? But I know who did."
"Jolene Townsend says it was you, and it was your personal computer that hacked into my bank." He said. "Ok? So where's my money?"
"Did anyone ever tell you...you look like a Mexican Chevy Chase?" I ask him and he grabs my neck and face. "I meant it as a compliment."
"The only reason you're alive now, is the chance that you can help me get my $17 million dollars back." He said.
"Let's just...lets just go back in, I can take you to Townsend." I say and he pats my shoulder.
"Put her in the water." He orders and turns away as I get pushed in the water the goon had baited for sharks. Lovely.
After I was in the water the guy kept baiting the water.
"You know I've got internet out here, you give me the account number and I check its good, I might take you back to the dock." He said.
"You've got internet? You gotta Netflix Status Shack, Chevy Chase, comic genius." I joke even though I'm freaking out.
"Your friend Larson wasn't so funny." He said.
"He wasn't my friend, ok? He and Townsend set me up." I said.
"You know the sharks ripped off his leg, but he kept treading water. Imagine trying to swim while watching a shark eat your own leg." He said and I was looking to see if I saw any sharks.
"Can't say I'm gonna...enjoy that." I say slowly watching for sharks.
"They're here." Said one of his goons and then I really got freaked out.
"Oh, not to big." Edwardo commercial ented. "Little bites, huh?"
He took little bites of his taco to emphasize his point.
"Do you have an account number for me?" He asks.
"If I did, you're not going to pull me out." I state.
"You're right, you give me the account number, I shoot you in the head and don't let you get eaten alive."  He bargains.
I feel something underneath me.
"Ah." I say and jerk back.
The men laugh.
"Wow, she's going to go fast now." Edwardo says.
"I can't remember if I'm supposed to punch them in the nose or in the gills." I say looking around me.
Something pulls me under the water and I hold my breath getting ready for the pain that is going to come.
I open my eyes and see Aubrey in a wet suit and he hands me an oxygen mask and a gun.
I get the message.
Go up there and shoot and I'll cover you.
I take down one then Aubrey takes down one leaving us with Edwardo. I climb aboard the boat and aim my gun at Edwardo as he drops his gun.
"You see those sharks?" I ask him.
"Just babies, couldn't even take a finger. Something scared them off." He says back.
I gave him my bitch face.
"Thanks guys." I say to the agents that are protecting Gary Dill. "We got him. It's over."
"And what about Townsend?" He asks.
"Turned over to us, I spoke to the NSA, we can get you back on the job." I told him.
"Thank you." He said sincerely.
"Let's get you out of here." I tell him.
"Hey, what just happened? Who are you?" Said the tall guy.
"All I can tell you gentlemen, is that Noah here is not paranoid." I said to the 2 men.
"I knew you wasn't crazy." Said the short one.
"You know what? Neither are you guys." I say.
"Hey, you know what? Maybe we can all hang out when I get out of here." He suggests.
"No can do my friend, that would mean I would have to tell you my true identity, then I would have to kill you." I said and they laugh. "You guys did a great job."
I walk a few steps and turn around. "Oh, there is a new fooz ball table on its way tomorrow." I tell them.
"Yes! That is so cool of you, thank you." The short one said.
"Thank you, really. For everything." The tall one says.
"You guys take care of yourselves." I tell them.
I walk away with Dill and left after I saw him get into a car that would take him home. I got in the car with Aubrey and looked at the time. It was already 7 which meant that as usual I was late to Sunday dinner.
I didn't have time to change so I still had on my wet blood stained scrubs that reeked of fish.
As soon as Aubrey stopped the car I jumped out and ran to the door.
I stopped just before the door and opened it slowly and stepped in.
"Uncle Bones?" I heard Sean ask and I smiled.
"Yeah buddy?" Bones answered.
"Where's aunt Allie?" He questioned.
"She had a prior commitment. She told me to tell you guys that she was very sorry she couldn't make it." Bones said.
I decided I would go ahead and walk into the dining room.
Bones saw me first and stood with Brooke in his arms, everyone was wondering what he was doing when he handed her to Jamie.
He walked over to me and pulled me into a kiss.
When we pulled away he pulled me into a hug and I knew he was happy that he finally knew where I was and that I was fine.
He pulled away and smiled at me.
"You smell like a fish." He said.
"Yeah, I had a run in with an ocean and baited sharks."
"What?!" He asks alarmed.
"I'm fine." I reassured.
Danny stood next and looked me up and down and noticed the blood on my scrubs.
"Is this yours?" He asks making me turn around so he could properly examine me.
"No, it's shark bait." I said and gave him a hug. Soon enough I had given everyone in the family a hug and I finally got to Brooke. I was so happy to be able to hold her seeing as I was almost shark food. So I just held her, while the others ate while I fed Brooke. And that's how the rest of the night went.
