Chapter 1; Think about it
Juliet’s p.o.v
After saying goodbye to my uncle for the day I put in my ear buds in and drove my car to work. It wasn’t that far and I was excited to work today. I wasn’t sure why I just knew today would be a good day. ‘A Thousand Years’ By Christina Perri played giving me the chills. Music meant a lot to me, I sometimes would write and sing my own music that I had wrote. It was a passion of mine. I wasn’t sure why I loved this song as much as I did. It was just such a sweet love story only people would dream about.
In high school I would dream about love and getting married but I have yet to find the right guy, nor do I think I am the marrying type. All of my past relationships didn’t go as I had planned. I wasn’t sure why…maybe I was the problem. I didn’t care to think about them, or the past even. It wasn’t the greatest to think about. I was always hurt and even let down by different people and different relationships. In the end I was always alone.
Once I had arrived, I parked in the back and walked inside. It was only eleven am so the café had been open for only a few hours since it was Sunday.
“Hello Juliet.” Mr. Austin nodded as I walked up front with my work apron on.
“Did you want me to work until closing today?” I asked him.
“If you could that would be wonderful.” He smiled before walking in the back.
I found my duties for the day and started stocking up the supplies. The bell jingled showing that someone had walked in. I looked up to see two guys sitting in my section. I grabbed two menus before walking over.
“Hello welcome to Connerstone Café. My name is Juliet I will be your sever, let me know if there is anything I can get you." I smiled "Would you like to start off with a drink?” I said placing the menus in front of them.
“Yeah I will have an ice water.” One of the guys said. He was still wearing his sunglasses inside. Who even does that? What a prick. They were obviously not from around here. I was already judging them, it was just such a bad habit of mine.
“I will have the same, but also a black coffee” the other said without even looking at me. This was going to be a great way to start off a long shift. I rolled my eyes inwardly.
“I will be right back with your drinks.” I said before walking away.
I gathered their drinks and brought them over to the table. It looked as if they hadn’t even moved since I had left.
“Here you go." I spoke breaking the silence. "Would you like any cream or sugar?” I asked the one man.
“No thanks.” He said before looking at me. As soon as I saw his eyes I realized who he was, my father. I dropped one of the glasses of water on the ground. I was caught off gaurd.
“Shit!” The guy with the glasses screamed standing up.
“Uh, sorry.” I said picking the glass up still in shock.
“It’s fine just watch where you are going.” He spat before taking off his glasses. I had a chance to actually see what his face looked like. He oddly looked fimilar. I looked back at the other man whom I was sure was my father.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” I spat. I felt my blood start to boil within me.
“That is no way to talk to a customer.” He spoke harshly.
“Don’t give me that bullshit.” I spat before starting to walk away. I didn’t know why he was here but I did not want to play his game.
“Do I know you?” He asked standing up. I was already so annoyed that I couldn't stop myself from turning around and looking at him again.
“Haha! ‘Do I know you?’ So you are playing that card? You leave me here for fifteen years and forget about me. You forgot that you have a daughter that your own older brother raises? You are going to pretend you don’t even know who I fucking am?” I was pissed, and I had every right to be.
“When you put it like that you make me sound like the bad guy.” He said. Obviously admitting that I was correct.
“Why do you even bother coming back here?” I asked, angry but curious.
“I need a favor.”
“You what? Oh my god.” Is he being serious right now?
“I need you to do something for me.” He said plainly as if I cared what he needed.
“I also needed you to be a father. I guess we don’t always get what we want.” I said before walking away.
“Juliet wait, just hear me out. What happened between me and your mom wasn’t easy for me. She meant a lot to me and so did you. But I couldn’t stand it here and I wanted, and needed to get away. I knew my brother would do a better job of raising you then I ever could. I couldn't take care of you the way you needed, so I left you here with him. I wanted to call and visit, but I couldn’t. You were and are better off without me in your life.” He said.
“I know this is wrong of me, to show up like this and ask you to do this, but I have nobody else. I need you to move to California with me. I will get you your own place and anything you need. Robert sent me your music, and it’s amazing. This could be a great oppertunity for you, and I need your help with my company.” He begged.
“Are you serious? You think I am going to drop everything and help you?” I spat almost laughing.
“I know. Please just think about it, we leave Wednesday morning.” He said before walking out of the door.
“Uh…thanks for the service.” The younger guy said before walking out the door behind my dad. I was still unsure about what had just happened.
(Please tell me what you think, I would love some feed back!)
