~~Cullen's POV~~

I was so happy that she was talking to me.

That she was safe.

The mind-link was fuzzy, as if talking through a wall. It was difficult for me to understand. I also felt strangely tired after trying to talk to her.

But when she said, "I'm scared." Everything seemed to crumble.

My wolf growled with anger and worry.

Purity! Are you there? I tried desperately to get to her.

No answer. My heart raced with panic. She wasn't dead though, I would feel it.

I wasn't sure if she could hear me but I tried anyway. Purity, hang in there for me. Please. I love you.

The front doors banged open and I looked up. A werewolf in my pack who I recognized as Jonathan. The best tracker in the pack.

"Alpha Cullen, we caught her scent. In the Midnight Eclipse Pack. What do you want us to do?" He asked, his voice frantic. He cared for the Luna, it was an instinct. His usually neat, blonde hair was messy and wind-blown. His face contorted in panic, worry, and anger.

I was panting. Trying to calm my breathing, I had to stay calm for the pack. "Call a pack meeting." I was surprised when my voice came out even and easy, despite the lump in my throat.

He dipped his head and walked out, me in tow.

*****************

Everyone was silent, sensing my discomfort.

"Your Luna has been taken." I start off. Everyone erupts into murmurs.

One voice carries above the rest, but I can't detect who it is. "But didn't you reject her? She isn't our Luna anymore."

"I understand but we have settled our problem. That was my fault, I didn't mean to." Why was I explaining myself? I didn't need to do this. "But she is still your Luna. You can't deny that you still feel something for her? We might be going to war with the Midnight Eclipse pack. Right now. So, all men older than twenty will be required to go. Women older than twenty who don't have children can go if you choose to." Everyone gave nods of approval.

With a small nod I ended the pack meeting. They were to say goodbye to their families.

I turned to face Michael. "It's okay Cullen. We'll find her." I had chosen Michael to be my new Beta. I trusted him to watch the pack while I was gone.

We were to leave for Purity in a few minutes.

~~Purity's POV~~

My arm was bleeding and the pain was unbearable.

"Ready to talk?" He asked sweetly. In return, I spit in his face. He growled and wiped it away, somehow keeping his face composed.

"Okay..." He said, drawing out the word. Without warning he had the knife to my throat.

"New tactic." The one behind him said.

In a few minutes they had me out of the chair, the silver cuffs still around my wrists. They were dragging me outside, I stumbled along. My head whirled and my arm bled heavily as my system tried to flush out the poison.

The wildlife carried on though, as if an injured werewolf wasn't being dragged by two other werewolf's. The birds sang and flew from treetop to treetop and the squirrels chattered and chased each other.

I fell to the ground, my knees hitting the ground with a thump of defeat. I just felt so tired. My brain lagged. They pulled me roughly to my feet again and carried on.

"W-where are we g-going?" My words slurred, as if I was drunk.

"Somewhere." They spoke simultaneously. Well, I think they did. What is wrong with me? I thought as I fell unconscious.

*****************

I woke up with a gasp. Sweat covered my forehead and my hair was in my eyes. My heartbeat felt... wrong. Too fast.

"What- What was that!?" I asked incredulously. A man held a syringe. We were still in the middle of the woods. The middle of a nightmare.

"It's adrenaline." He answered simply. "You were close to dead but we didn't want it to end that easily, now did we? We wanted to tell you the happy news. We found your Mate. Were holding him in the questioning him right now. We have no use for you anymore." He shrugged.

My jaw dropped, horror washed through me. They're going to kill him! I thought.

"Please, please no. Let him go, he did nothing to deserve this." I whimpered. He walked forward, his lips inches from my ear. The knife he held was a little too close to my cheek for comfort.

"I'm just messing with you." He whispered, followed by a dark chuckle. I gave a sign of relief.

Now the knife pressed against my cheek, cutting into my skin. I cried out with pain.

"Let. Her. Go." A voice growled. The voice sent shivers down my spine. Cullen.

Happiness spread through me like wildfire but it was soon extinguished as the man turned toward him. "Ah. So, your her Mate. Took you long enough." Rustles surrounded us and my old pack members stepped from the brush. But they were met evenly when Cullen's pack stepped out too.

"Now we can kill her." He tilted his head toward me. My jaw dropped open, I yanked against the cuffs but found that they were wrapped around the trunk of a tree. My heart beat rapidly.

I stared at Cullen with fear but he had yet to look at me.

"Cullen, no, please. Leave." I wanted to shout it but when I opened my mouth, no sound came out. I felt too weak.
