The pitch black veil of the night sky, covered the beach in the darkness it provided; and it would have been almost impossible to see their whereabouts, had it not been the fire progressing and illuminating them with roaring flames, climbing higher and higher toward the sky. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore proved to be not enough to drown the low growls and groans of the roamers nearing them. They had followed the group down to the beach and the fire had caught their attention - dull, lifeless eyes staring almost curiously at the bright orange flames.Another bomb zoomed by in the sky with a deafening sound before colliding with yet another residence. Allison jumped slightly with the explosion, narrowing her eyes at the dark cloak of waves, expectantly waiting to see Nick in the small boat - shoulder-lenght hair waving wildly in the air as the wind caressed it - but instead she was met with nothing apart from the dark horizon.
He will come. He said he would.
A loud groan from near her, caught her attention and Allison turned just in time to see a roamer approaching Chris. "Watch out." She called, earning the attention of Madison and Travis, before she quickly grabbed a large piece of stick from the sand and charged at the dead woman, wincing slightly before the adrenaline took over her actions and she forcefully stabbed the skull, watching as the body slumped to the ground unmoving - blood cascading down her forehead to paint the sand surrounding the wound. She faced Chris just slightly to see him nodding slightly as a thank you.
"Travis!"
"Oh Jesus, Madi."
Turning to face the couple, Allison saw both Travis and Madison glaring at the roamers who were approaching in small moaning packs - decaying skin, and open wounds only intensifying the scene.
"Chris, move to the water!" Travis' voice was loud in command and desperation, unwillingly giving off the fear running through his veins at that moment.
Chris grabbed a rather large rock from the ground before snapping to his father about how he wouldn't leave his mother behind. In the midst of their burning gazes, some roamers had neared them, now in a bigger quantity. Allison grabbed Liza's legs, signalling Chris with a cold look to grab the upper part.
She was willing to help him deal with his mother's death - even if he was acting childish and recklessly. She understood he felt alone and out of place now that his mother was dead, having herself always felt this way since she joined this group. She knew what it was like to feel like she was intruding on this family. This didn't, however, give him the right to slow them down, and put their lives at stake for a dead body. That was all Liza was now sadly, just a dead body. A burden.
The unmistakable sound of a boat engine soared in the air, and Allison looked over her shoulder as she walked backwards, sighing in relief at the familiar face approaching the shore. "Faster." She ordered, quickening her steps and trusting Travis and Madison to clear the area around them before Nick stopped the boat.
"C'mon," Nicks voice resonated in the air. "Let's go. Let's go."
Travis rushed to help with Lisa's body, as everyone struggled to get inside the tiny boat, Allison silently praying it wouldn't sink - she never enjoyed being on boats or on the sea, nevertheless - so the idea of having to go to a yacht was slowly throwing her over the edge. Suddenly, a man rose from within the water, growling at them as he slowly approached. Everyone's face paled, before Nick took action - lifting the boat's engine and using the propeller to destroy it's skull - it was a gruesome view and Allison gagged slightly, turning to face the sky.
The place resembling a war zone got further and further away as they rode to their destination in silence. Allison could feel someone's gaze penetrating her skin, and she glanced to be met with a pair of intense brown eyes. She smiled briefly at Nick, her body swinging as the boat went up and down the ocean's powerful thrusts.
"I would always come back to get you." He mumbled, eyes racking over Allison's face, before acknowledging his words had caught the attention of the others and quickly rephrased himself. "I wouldn't leave any of you behind."
He lingered his eyes on his mother for a few seconds to intensify his argument before settling them back on Allison, and she nodded at him, eyes warm and body shivering from the cold and his presence.
"I never doubted that." Her voice was low, almost a whisper, but the small twitch of his lips told her he had heard and appreciated her words.
The silhouette of a rather larger boat became visible to her right and Allison squinted her eyes to see Daniel and Victor Strand on the edge awaiting, though the latest walked off once he set eyes on them. They unloaded the bags Madison had packed with essentials and walked inside the yacht, where Ofelia and Alicia, who was carrying Bailey, joined and helped.
Allison smiled at Bailey, caressing her hair and holding onto her as Alicia took her bag from Madison, carrying it inside. "You alright baby?"
Bailey nodded her head with a small yawn. Allison chuckled heartily and kissed her cheek." There are small rooms inside." Nick's voice sounded from behind Allison and she gasped slightly, turning to face him wide eyed. He smiled amusingly at her reaction before pinching Bailey's nose. "You, Alicia and Bailey can share one."
Allison nodded, taking in his gentle gaze. She wanted to thank him, for coming back, for not leaving without her, without them. She thought back to the boat when he had said he wouldn't leave her behind, and looked somewhat troubled when the others heard. She was confused - Nick was never one to show his feelings toward anyone, he always kept to himself; so there was no way for her to know if he cared for her as a close friend, or possibly even more than that.
"Nick," Ofelia's voice interrupted her thoughts and Allison shyly flicked her eyes to her feet, feeling the heat rise to her cheeks at Nick's intense glare. "Can you help me carry these inside?"
Nick nodded his head solemnly, lingering his gaze on Allison for one second too long before grabbing the huge black bag at Ofelia's feet and taking it inside.
Allison joined the rest with Bailey, taking in the devastating view of what used to be home. A new ocean of orange met the dark blue one as the flames of the explosions increased, destroying everything on its way. The only peaceful thing on the scene was the dark, star streaked sky above them, and the small hope crawling at their hearts that the new destination would be safe, that things would be better off somewhere else.Allison wanted to believe that, she really did. Oh, if only that was true...
