The Mortal Arts: New Beginnings

Chapter 2

Liberty's POV

I looked around the small subway room and glanced at the 3 people that were around me. A handsome boy named Zero sat next to me and my new best friend Asher sat across from me and beside her sat another boy called Brad. I turned my gaze to look down at my black combat boots.

I wore a pair of black boot cut jeans, a black t-shirt, black leather jacket, and my black fingerless parkour gloves. I liked to think I was pretty good at parkour it helped when I got caught picking pockets.

"Hey liberty, do you have a pair of head phones I can use?"

I looked to my right to see Zero pull out his lap top and start a movie. I dug into my back pack and pulled out some earbuds and hand them to Zero he puts one into his ear and then hands the other one to me

"want to watch 'the scorch trials' with me?"

He asked giving me a small smile, I shyly smile back and place the earbud into my ear and scoot a little closer to him so I could see the screen, resting my head on his shoulder. Little did he know we were watching my favorite movie of all time.

I glance up at Asher to see her smile at me and her and Brad went back to talking. Once the movie was over I noticed that Asher and Brad were gone, presumably to go eat. I pull out a book about the gods that founded this school, there were 5 gods, Zeus, Apollo, Hera, Athena, and Nemesis. Each God founded there own tribe, I secretly wanted to be in Zeus tribe, I would've kept reading but at that moment Asher and Brad walk back in, so I put the book down to talk for a while.

"So Liberty..." Brad starts "what did you do for fun before you found out you were a ShadowHunter?"

I shifted in my seat before answering

"I was a theif and pick pocket"

Brad whistled and turned to look out the window. I sighed I was pretty shy and haven't said much this entire trip, I lightly tap Zero's shoulder

"want to go get some food?" I ask him as he nods and gets up and opens the door and gestures for me to go out

"ladies first" he's said

as his dark green eyes sparkled. I felt my cheeks began to grow red as I pushed past him and walked down the hall. He quickly catches up, and laughs as he see's me blushing, I lightly punch his arm. I turned towards a door to my right just as a foot slide's out of a door way, I couldn't avoid it in time and tripped, my head slamming into the hard floor. My vision goes fuzzy for a minute and I just hear a yell and when my head cleared I sit up too see Zero punching a guy in the nose! I quickly stand up and grab zero by the arm and attempt to drag him back too are subway room. He glances at me with a worried look on his face then glances back at the guy who tripped me. He spits on the man before muttering a curse at him and allows me to pull him back to the room.

When we get there Asher immediately snapped her head to us and sees the tears that were streaming down my face, she stands up and puts an arm around me. I hate loud noises and the yelling made me start crying, I also get panic attacks when there's to much noise so I had to be careful.
Me and Asher sat down on one side of the room while Zero sat with Brad and explained what happened. I finally stopped crying and told them I didn't like loud noises. I was expecting them to tease me but they didn't instead Brad and Asher nods and said they would try not to ever yell when I was around and Zero nodded in agreement and gave me a concerned look.

I pull out my phone and began to listen to 'Hello' by Adele. Asher grabbed my other ear bud and put it in. She's starts singing and I laugh as Brad begins singing too. They both had a nice voice but it was still pretty funny. Zero laughs and starts singing along too. I don't like singing in front of people so I just watch as Asher starts singing in an opera voice. Soon the song was over and everybody started doing there own thing, Asher still has my earbud in her ear so I nudge her and let her pick out a movie on my phone. She finally taps on 'Lord of the Rings' we began watching.

Halfway through the movie I look up and see Zero smiling at me, I quickly blush and avoid eye contact. He really was handsome but I never really believed in love. And who would want to love me? I was a lonely thief that had brown hair and eyes I didn't have and cool hair color or style. I was just plain...

Suddenly Brad yelled something. Me and Asher both glance up to see the huge school is was old, but beautiful. I smile when I realize this is it. I grab my backpack (the only thing I had) and slid my ear buds and phone into it and slung it over my shoulder. Asher walked out first then Brad, Zero, and of course me. I watch as they get in line to get of the subway, I take a deep breath and follow my new best friends.
