The Mortal Arts: New Beginnings

Chapter 5

Brad's POV

This morning my alarm clock went off at 5:45 A.M. I hopped in the shower for a quick 10 minute shower. I got dressed for my official first day of this ShadowHunter school. I was having a difficult time choosing my outfit. I had never had problems like this before. I then realized what the problem was: I wanted to look good in front of Asher. I chose a black pair of skinny jeans that had an extra thick layer of fabric over the knees for a better protection in battle. I then pulled out a tight black cotton t-shirt from my second-to-the-top drawer. After pulling on my black combat boots, I slipped on my black and navy leather jacket.

I walked out of my room over to the bathroom to brush my teeth, brush my hair, and wash my face. I'd met zero in the bathroom doing the same as I. As I looked at his reflection in the mirror I realized that he was a boy that a lot of girls would find attractive. Ever since him and Liberty were sitting together last night, Zero has been under this weird spell of love. He must've noticed that I was looking at him like a retard because he said,

"Dude, stop looking at me like that. You are just as in love as I am."

He walked through the door as I realized what he had said.

"Zero, these girls," I paused searching for the words to describe them, "their special."

"I know man, I feel the same way. I'm happy for you Brad, you found somebody."

"I'm happy for you too bro," I relied with a smile.

Zero finished his out fit with putting on his black combat boots that were almost identical to mine. Zero wore a black athletic muscle t-shirt, black skinny jeans, and his black leather jacket.

"Well, let's go meet our girls" I said with a smirk.

"Yes," agreed Zero, "let's."

To wait for the girls to finish getting ready, we say on one of the tribe sofas facing the girls' hallway. I was checking my Instagram feed when I heard a door knob open. I looked up and saw the two most beautiful women walking towards us. I said

"How did I get so lucky?" To Zero.

I wanted to make sure both girls heard my comment. I look to my left and see Zero's mouth hung open staring at Liberty. As Asher gets a few strides away I stand up to greet her and say,

"You look stunning babe."

"Aww thanks, but you always do."

Her sweet comment made my face turn bright red with happiness. As Liberty walks over to Zero, they greet each other then Zero sits back down and opens his arms in an invitation to have Liberty sit in his lap. Liberty kindly accepts. I glacé over to where other kids are at. Most of them are gathered around a door with papers in their hands. I could already tell what it was.

"Come on guys lets go get our schedules."

I look back at Liberty and Zero, Liberty whispered something along the lines of "I don't want to get up," she was perfect for him. Both kind of quiet, but once you warm them up they are super fun to be around. Asher offered to get there schedules for them and they both thanked her for it.

" Brad Lane,"

I looked over at a blonde girl passing out schedules, I stepped forward and grabbed mine.

"Liberty Chase,"

Asher steps forward and grabbed it for Liberty.

"Zero Blank,"

I stepped forward this time to save her the extra step. She smiles at me and says

"Thanks."

I hold our eye connection for another moment before smiling and saying,

"No problem Red,"

I couldn't help but smile at her, she makes me so happy. Ever since I've met her I've been on cloud 9.

"Asher Laderndale,"

Asher stepped forward and grabbed her schedule. The both of us ran over to Liberty and Zero to hand them their schedules. We all compared the layout that our classes were in.

-Runes/ 45 minutes

Asher's

Liberty's

We were all very excited about our schedules and that every class we had, at least one of the other 3 had it as well. We all departed with our animals to the first class. This class would teach us how to make our bonds stronger and train our pets for battles and missions. My gray boy pet chinchilla was named Grayco. Zero's male falcon was named Flint. Asher's female 6 month old german Shepard pup was named Rya and Liberty's male year old German Shepard's name was Ryder. Liberty, Asher and I learned how to command our pets to roll over, and the four of us learned how to make our pets shake hands with us.

Everyone had a 15 minute break between the next class. The four of us used it to go back to our dorms and change into our combat/training/workout clothing. I beg Asher was glad to have a break to change into better shoes. She was wearing black leather high heeled boots that went a little higher than her knees. She ran as fast as she could in those things so she could quickly change and get back to the rest of us. She strutted down the hallway in black leather combat boots with a water bottle in hand. Liberty, Zero and I had also went back and grabbed water devices ourselves. Once she reached me she raised herself on her tippy toes and gave me a kiss. There's no way I'm taking this for granted. I picked her up in a hug while we kissed. I slowly moved my way through the door and made it down one flight of stairs. The platform we were now standing on moved to a next flight of stairs using huge gears. The only people close by were Liberty, Zero, a long blonde haired boy named Jaimie Bower, and a girl with long jet black hair named Kaya (Ki-uh). We had met earlier and we became very good friends with them. They were all laughing at us. There was another big long flight of stairs left and I decided my legs were already sore and I hadn't even begun combat yet so I gently put her down. She playfully whimpered and stuck out her bottom lip in disappointment. I pull her in close with my elbow curling around her neck. I kissed her head and walk with her down the stairs hand-in-hand.
