The Mortal Arts: New Beginnings

Chapter 3

Brad's POV
We just got off of the subway that took us to the school we were inside of. We had all filed into the lobby of the school. The school was old, and had extremely high ceilings. Stained glass windows were scattered throughout the place. Wood was a huge feature in this boarding school. Wooden railings, trim, door frames, tables, chairs, benches, walls, stairs, etc.,
There was a cozy warm feeling this old building presented.

I could not wait to become a skilled and trained shadowhunter so I can fight in battles and complete missions just like my mum and father. They said that I would meet my mate and parabati over these next 5 years the school keeps us for.

I look over to my new friends beside me that I'd met on the subway ride: Asher, Liberty & Zero. We were all standing close to each other in this lobby packed full of new shadowhunters.

Asher was cute, she had curly red hair and a cute nose with eyes that glisten. We hit it off pretty well on the subway; both of us flirting with one another. I wonder if she likes me? No probably not, I bet she was just being nice. Plus, half the boys in this lobby were drooling over her, Liberty, or one of the girls across the room who acted full of herself.

I got jealous quick and couldn't stand the fact that all these boys were swooning over the girl I liked! I wanted her to myself! Mine! I turned to face her to my left and went for it. I cupped her face in my hands and kissed her. After a second, she pulled back and said,

"I don't even know you!"

"I know, but I want you. I want you to be mine"

I had no clue if she was into me or not. My palms got sweaty and I tried wiping them against my jeans to dry them. Before I could however, Asher took her hands in mine. I bent my head down to kiss her again and in my surprising, she met me halfway. I could hear kids in the background snickering. Some of the boys' voiced sounded jealous of my actions. Good I thought, shows them not to mess with my girl.

"Ugh, get a room you guys!" A female voice stated.

I pulled out of the kiss and saw Liberty and Zero staring at us in surprisement and disgust. They both however, looked happy for us. I looked down to Asher and whispered,

"You look so beautiful right now."

"You think so?" She asked in a questioning voice.

"I speak the truth Asher, nothing but" I told her reassuringly.

I saw her cheeks turn red as she began to blush. She was so cute when she did that! I'm not a huge fan on PDA so I decided enough kissing for the moment and turned to face the headmaster at the front of the crowd.

"Alright everyone listen up! We will sort each of you into your tribe after our very own creators of this school, Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Hera and finally Nemesis.  The procedure will go as follows: one by one you will stand before the rest of the crowd, say your name then come up to this detector that will scan your identification bracelet. The detector will read aloud the god at which fits you best. You will then walk over to Professor Plumborg who will give you a handbook, your tribes history and expectations as a member of the tribe. She will also hand you a burlap sack which has 2 tribe ties, 3 pairs of pajamas, 2 tribe robes, a tribe scarf and a couple of pairs of your tribe colored socks. After receiving your sack, you are to meet your tribe leader. You can find your tribe leader with a sign of the tribe you were assigned to. Remember that after you are assigned your tribe, there's no going back or changing. Does everyone understand?"

Most of the kids nod their head and some say the simple, "yes sir."

"Very good. Begin."

The first kid who steps up I immediately recognize, it's the self- centered girl guys have been staring at since we've met each other. She identifies herself as Minnie Wert and is assigned to the Nemesis. She accepts her sack and joins her tribe leader and then the next kid steps up. This boy's name was Brock Blevins, he was also assigned to Nemesis. This process repeated until finally I was up. Zero and Liberty were both placed in Zeus and I was hoping I would be placed in Zeus as well. I look over to the Nemesis tribe, they were all hollering and yelling rude things- I definitely didn't want to be apart of that jerk fest. I step coward and say,

"My name is Brad Lane,"

I walk over to the scanner and take a deep breathe before I put my wrist under the scanner. The scanner only took 3 seconds if that to assign everyone else to their tribe. My wrist was still under the scanner, nothing was happening. I started to have a cold sweat come out of my skin in worry. One of the professors came over and had another scanner in his hand. He scanned the bracelet and it read aloud,

"Zeus!"

I exhaled a deep breath I didn't realize I was holding. I took my sack of clothes and books and joined Liberty and Zero. Now was the time for Asher. I was so nervous for her. If she got placed into Nemesis I think I could cry. I don't want her anywhere but my side. Asher walks steadily over to the detector and puts her wrist under the scanner. I could tell she was frightened, she was shaking and her breath was uneven. Even the scanner could tell she was nervous because it even said

"Asher Laderndale, relax. We cannot read you if you are worried."

I saw her take a deep breath and close her eyes before she tried again.

"Ahah!" The machine said. "Zeus it is!"

Liberty looked so relieved she practically fainted. Thank gosh Zero was there to catch her. Zero lifted Liberty into his arms and held her closely. As my girl walked toward me I greeted her with a quick subtle kiss to show her my happiness that we we in the same tribe together. She looked over to Zero holding Liberty and she laughed and said,

"You guys are cute ya know."

Zero turned beet red and looked down at Liberty who was blacked out but nestled against his warm body. He just smiled.
