The latest project they worked on was finally approved. Steven had come to the rescue with his ideas and Rj and his team were just ecstatic at the bigger deal they were going to get after this approval.
"Steven!! Pare! We got the project!! Thank you! Thank you!" Rj said when he called Steven to thank him for the help.
"Hahahaha! Sus! No problem dude! You know naman that I'm just here to help, diba? So ano, celebrate tayo? It's Ryan's party tomorrow night at Palace, remember?"
"Oo naman!! One round on me, Pare!"
"Gago! Open bar yon dude! Hahahahaha! Pero sige, I'm looking forward to that round when we hang out with the gang..."
"Hahahahaha! Sige....Later, dude!"
Rj wasn't really much of a social person. He enjoyed the company of his friends but he would rather stay at home on his rest days. There he played video games in his room or with his cousins or assembled model helicopters. He built several already and these were all on display in plastic cases on his shelves in his room and more in the den downstairs. It was a hobby he shared with his Dad. His friends both teased him for his 'boring' hobby but at the same time admired him for his focus and attention to detail with all the models he had already finished.
That Saturday morning however, he joined Ryan and a group of enthusiasts at the Cuenca field in Alabang. There was a flying competition that day and Rj wanted to show off some of the skills he learned. It was his 8th competition and hopefully, he would win (again) this time. He enjoyed every minute of the morning and even joined the group for a quick lunch at ATC. He actually won something that day, he got 2nd place, overall.
"O, Pare! Don't forget tonight, ha?" Ryan said as they walked back to their cars.
"Yeah! 11pm, right?"
"Yup! Don't be late!"
"Ako pa!"
"Oo, ikaw nga! Pare! The last time you came to our gig, you were late!"
"Sus! 1 hour lang eh..something came up kaya..."
"Excuses...excuses!"
"Hahaha! Sige na! I'll be there at 11pm..."
"Sabi mo yan, ha?"
Rj and Ryan high-fived and body bumped before Rj walked to his car which was parked opposite Ryan's. He waved goodbye as he entered his car and drove home.
Once home, he took a shower then went down to the lanai where he saw his Mom and Tita Sally chit-chatting.
"Hi Mom!" he greeted her with a kiss on the cheek. "Tita Sally is staying for a couple of days, hijo...." his mom began. "She'll stay in Riza's room first" His Mom, Rio, said. "Riza is with Julia this weekend. Nagpa-Batangas sila."
He then went to the other side of the table and greeted his Tita as well, "Ah, okay. Good afternoon, Tita! Kamusta na ang farm?" he asked her as he kissed her on the cheek.
"Puli ka bala! Damo na to bunga ang lumboy! (Why don't you come home? The duhat tree is full of fuit) I remember how you and your cousin, Derek, used to love climbing that tree!" Tita Sally replied, patting him on the head as he bent down to kiss her.
"Really, Tita? Miss ko na magkaon lumboy, actually." (I actually miss eating duhat) he replied as he took a seat at the they were at.
"Nanay...mangayo man ko juice, please..." (Nanay....may I have juice, too, please) he called out to the maid in the kitchen.
"Nagdala gani ko!" (I brought some)
"Yes!"
"Nay, nagdala kuno si Tita Sally sang lumboy?" Nanay, Tita Sally brought some duhat?) he asked the maid as she put down his glass of juice on the table.
"Hu-o, gin butang ko anay sa ref para magtugnaw." (Yes, I put it in the refrigerator to cool)
"Ok! Makuha lang ko later. Thank you." (Great! I'll get some later. Thank you.)
The maid left as his dad approached them.
"O, Richard, how was your game?" Rj's mom asked.
"I scored an eagle." he shyly replied.
"Way to go, Dad!" Rj cheered.
"Oh, ikaw naman, hijo. May lupad ka man gina, diba?" his asked. (Oh, how about you? Didn't you fly earlier?)
"Yup! Da-og man, 2nd place." (Yup! I won...2nd place) Rj replied, beaming.
"Amo na ya! Which one did you fly?" (Well done! Which one did you fly?) his Dad asked.
"Ang T-Rex 500."
"Ahh mayo na. Stable kag indi bug-at. Did you see the latest models na? Kit-an ko sa internet the other day." (Ahh...that's a good one....stable and not heavy.....i saw them on the internet the other day)
"Wa-ay pa ko ka-check.." (I haven't checked yet)
"Haay kamo mga boys and your toys...Te, Sally, let's go the kitchen." (You boys and your toys...Sally, let's go to the kitchen) Rio, Rj's mom exclaimed, interrupting the boys. "You need to show me the how to make callos."
"Callos?" Rj's eyes lit up
"Yes, hijo. Hambal ni Mommy mo, favourite mo kuno?" (Yes, hijo. Your Mom says it's your favourite)
"Yes, Tita!"
"Okay. Didto kami anay sa kitchen." (Okay! We'll just be in the kitchen)
"To, diri ka ma-dinner?" his Mom asked. (Son, will you have dinner here?)
"Yes, Ma..."
"Rj, ma-gwa ka naman tonight? Don't drive kung mainom ka ha? Have Jose drive you." (Rj, are you going out again tonight? Don't drive if you're going to drink, ok? Have Jose drive you.) his Dad interrupted.
"Ok ah, Dad." he replied and stood up to play with his dog, Globie, a husky, who was lazily sprawled on the cool floor by the couch nearby.
