"I can bring it over there now..."

Maine stared at her phone. She looked up then looked at the screen again. She closed the app and opened it again.

"I can bring it over there now..."

She wasn't quite sure if she read it right the first time. She threw her phone on her bed, grabbed her pillow and squealed into it. She was excited at the thought that they might see each other again. She had developed a crush on this Rj guy after she first saw him at Amici. That dimple of his on his left cheek! The boyish, clean look. Wait...how old is he? ("He must be around my age...friend nya si Steven na friend/former project-mate ni Pauleen so medyo magkalapit lang siguro age namin..." Thoughts like these swam in her head..."anong isasagot mo sa kanya?" "Shet , Maine! Sheeeeeeeeeet!!")

After around 10 minutes, she picked up her phone and tried to compose a reply...

"Sure..." (don't send that! masyadong obvious that you like him!)

"You can keep it..." (tanga! favourite mo kaya yun!)

"Are you sure? Baka hassle for you..." (pwede...)

SEND.

The "three bouncing balls" indicating a message or reply was being composed appeared. Maine started to shake..

"No hassle. You live nearby lang diba?"

"Hmmm...true"

There was a long pause after her last reply. She stared at her phone for a while. The "three bouncing balls" didn't appear. (Is he waiting for me to say something more?) She was jolted back to reality when she heard the dinner bell calling everyone to dinner.

She normally didn't bring her phone with her to the dinner table but this time, she did. She took her place beside Dean, who lead saying Grace and ate quietly. She would glance at her phone once in a while...

"So, Inday, that guy na nakit-an ta sa mall kagina, who is he?" (who was that guy we saw at the mall earlier?) her Mom asked casually

"Uhh...si Rj....Na-meet ko sya sa party na gin kadtu-an namon ni Pau 3 weeks ago sa Fort...." (I met him at the party at the Fort...)

"So friend sya ni Pau?"

"Uhmm...friend sya sang friend ni Pau...."

Dean, her Dad, and Mom looked at her, a bit confused.

"Sang isa ka lunch break namon, nakit-an kami sang friend ni Pau na si Steven sa Amici sa Ayala Triangle...he was with Steven....gin-introduce kami ni Steven...he also brought me home the other night when it rained hard..." (During one lunch break, Steven, Pau's friend saw us at Amici at the Ayala Triangle...Steven introduced us....he also brought me home the other night when it rained hard....)

Just then, her phone buzzed.

"Sorry..had to go down for dinner e..."

"Can I still bring it over?"

"Maybe we can have coffee or dessert....that's if you're done with dinner also..."

Her dad spoke, "I have to go to the station to pick up papers...Dean, upod ka?" (Dean, you want to come along?)

"Sige ah..." Dean replied.

"Dad, Can I go out for coffee lang?" Maine asked.

"Okay..."

She turned back her attention to her phone...

"Ga-dinner man kami..." (we're also having dinner...)

"Ay! Sorry...sorry..."

"Okay lang no...tapos na naman ko"

"So, coffee?"

"Okay..."

There was a long pause again. She excused herself from the table and went back up to her room, almost skipping...

"Okay...give me 20minutes..."
