"Christa, can you go for a little bit?" I ask as I turn around to look at her.
I grab my apartment keys from the metal bowl on the table by the door. I hand it to her, hoping it'll influence her even more to leave now that she can get in when she wants. Hopefully, that won't backfire.
"Yeah, of course." She smiles at me and grabs her shoes from the door. She pockets the keys before quickly slipping her shoes on. "Good luck."
"Thanks." I watch her leave.
I wait for Natasha to knock on my door. It seems to take hours, like the time is going in super slow motion. I won't lie and say I'm perfectly calm. I'm freaking out inside. What happened between us wasn't as bad as a fight between us would have been, but we went a few days without talking. She pushed me away during that time period. Why? Well, I'm about to find out.
The knock is quiet, and I wish I didn't hear it. With sweaty, shaking hands, I pull open the door. There stands Natasha, looking a hundred times more beautiful than she did when I last saw her. It's not the hair or make-up that's beautiful though, it's her smile. She genuinely looks happy now.
"Hi," she says. Those few days must have been spent collecting her energy and happiness again.
"Hi." Now I'm the one who looks like crap. "Come in." I step aside.
"Thank you." Natasha brushes past me, her perfume exciting my senses.
"So, this is going to sound rude, but why are you here?" I close the door.
"I came here to talk to you. I haven't done that the last few days and I feel bad." She bites her lip and sits on the back of the couch. "I just wasn't feeling the best."
"What happened at the movie theater that made you so distant?" I ask, getting straight to the point.
"That is going to be a long story." Natasha moves to sit on the couch properly and gestures for me to join. "You better get comfortable."
I sit down next to her, ecstatic that she's so willing to tell me something personal. I face her way, showing that I am interested and ready for her to begin.
"Let me just start with that it wasn't you, Kaitlyn, or Sharon," she says. She folds her hands together on her lap. "It was just me seeing a specific something that was really hard for me to let go of. I won't get into detail about what happened between us because that's not important, but I will roughly tell you what happened.
"She and I dated for three years. We moved in together, were inseparable, blah blah blah." She's trying to make a joke out of this when I can see how painful it is for her. "We always argued about every little thing. Only a few times it got really bad, the rest was more like joking or easy to make up from. One time, the last time we talked, it was a terrible argument. That was one and a half years ago. We... broke up and she immediately moved out. Because we haven't talked since then, I haven't had any closure or anything like that. So it really hurt me to see her... with someone new at the theater. They were sitting two rows down from us and I saw something that really put me in a bad mood," she finishes with a deep sigh. "Questions? Comments?"
"I'm sorry." I frown. "I was mad at you for ignoring me when I didn't even know the real reason behind it."
"I don't blame you," Natasha says with a smile. "I reacted poorly and treated you like an ass the other day."
"A little bit," I agreed hesitantly.
"Hey!" she says, faking being surprised and offended. "You don't have to agree with me!"
"But I wanted to." I smirk.
"So we're all good now?" Her eyes look hopeful.
Does she really think we wouldn't be all good after she was honest about me with something that was hard for her to even say? I appreciate the honesty that came from her lips; it makes me understand the situation and why those days passed without us speaking to each other.
