Albus' POV
We walked in a crowd right in the middle of the hall, two tables either side of us. I heard Rose saying something about the ceiling, someone must be bored. We reached the raised platform where the staff table was, and where the sorting hat, stool, and pile of books for Professor Flitwick.
"Rose Weasley," he called. Rose began to walk slowly up to the stool, and he put the hat on her head. I could see her muttering to herself as she walked up. The hat 'hmmm'ed for a while and decided on Gryffindor.
Then the hat sorted a boy called Charlie Bones into Hufflepuff. But then, he said "Scorpius Malfoy," he walked up to the raised platform casually, as if it was a walk in the park.
The hat barely touched his head and yelled "Slytherin." Scorpius walked over to the Slytherin table, smirking. But then, Professor Flitwick called my name. I was going to get sorted. I walked up to the raised platform and saw Neville; I mean, Professor Longbottom, give me a thumbs up, I smiled back and almost tripped over the stool, oops. I sat on the stool and the hat was placed on my head.
The hat was quite old and tatty, and it was too big, so it covered my eyes. The hat seemed to contemplate what house to put me in, "plenty of courage ... a longing for knowledge ... and a thirst to prove yourself ... but where to put you?" The moment it asked me this, I was chanting 'not Slytherin' strongly in my head. "You sure?" it questioned, I carried on the chanting and it said, "Okay, Gryffindor!" Everyone cheered and I grinned from ear to ear as I walked over to the Gryffindor table. James was feigning hurt, and Lily was grinning.
The sorting took a while, but was soon over, and Professor McGonagall said a few words and allowed us to eat. Food appeared on the tables and the goblets kept filling up themselves, and the food reappeared when the platters were empty. We ate and ate until we couldn't any longer.
When Professor McGonagall saw that everyone had stopped eating, she made a small speech. "Welcome back, and to our new students, welcome to Hogwarts, we hope you will find this term both enjoyable and educational. Mr Filch Jr. has asked me to remind you for the 16th time that you are strictly forbidden from entering the Dark Forest; this is for your own safety. The S.P.E.W. club will be starting next week on Thursday's. Thank you, prefects, can you show the first years to their dormitories. The rest of the school can go in a minute."
A boy named Charlie Prewett was the prefect told to show us to dormitories. He brought us to a portrait of a fat lady. He said, "This is the entrance to the common room, the fat lady asks you a question and you answer it if you get it right, you get 1 house point, then you give her the password and you're allowed to go in." He turned to the Fat Lady expectantly.
"What happens when you say 'Expecto Patronam'?
"Dementors are driven back by a protective silvery shield."
"Correct, password?"
"Sword of Gryffindor," he answered. The portrait swung open to reveal the Gryffindor common room. It there was a sofa, two armchairs and tables and chairs around the edge if the room. In the corner, there was a blazing, unnatural, red fire with a golden glowing edge. Just as everyone was soaking everything in, Prewett began to talk. "Boys your dormitories are up the stairs and on your left, girls the same on the right. Your belongings have already been taken up, and you'll find your name by your bed, touch your wandtip to it and it will show you your schedule. Your lessons start tomorrow, don't be late, you don't want to make a bad first impression. I have maps if you want them, good night," he left us there and hurried off to his dorm.
We all trooped up the stairs heading to our dorms and found our beds. I found my bed with the piece of paper bearing my name. I touched my wand to it, I saw my schedule appear. I had transfiguration tomorrow morning, first thing, and looking at the other lessons I had, I could see that I had an awful lot with Slytherin. Uncle Ron wouldn't like that! I found my trunk under my bed and began to unpack, when a boy came up to me. He said "Hi, my names Thomas Finnigan, what's yours?"
"Um, I'm Albus Potter," I replied, taken aback by his fullness. Just then James stormed into my dorm.
"Albus, come quick!" he yelled.
"Okay, um, bye," I finished awkwardly, but I realised I was talking to no one. The boy had returned to his bed across the room. I stood there, wondering how he'd got there, but James quickly interrupted and tugged my sleeve, bringing me quickly back to reality. "Come on," he said, impatient much? "Quickly!"
"Okay, okay I'm coming, calm down." Jeez that boy ate too much candy on the train. He set off, running down the stairs. "Slow down," I huffed.
"No!"
"Where are we going?"
"Corridor."
"Why?" I asked getting impatient myself, but we'd arrived. "You brought me all the way over here to show me Scorpius Malfoy holding a wand." I said, getting really annoyed. James pointed at the ceiling and everything clicked into place. He was holding Rose's wand and was levitating a rigid Rose in the air many, many metres in the air. "Wh- wha- how-" how can he be levitating her, if we haven't even learnt how to do anything apart from what our parents told us, oh wait, his parents told him, ugh. "James, do something." nothing happened, "NOW!"
"I can't, if I do, Rose'll fall, and then there won't be a Rose." I guess he was right...
So I walked up to the brat with his gelled back hair. "You put her down right now," I shouted, "or I'll...I'll..."
"You'll what?" He spat at me, the snobby brat. "You'll curse me and kill you precious Rose?" He laughed and threw her about in the air.
"Put her down now," I said through gritted teeth.
"Make me."
From there it was true that she couldn't survive, but...
"Okay." I did a bat bogey hex that my mum taught me. He immediately dropped her wand and ran, that boy should learn to not mess with the Potter's and Weasley's. Ha loser! I turned around to see James controlling Rose's fall and catching her.
"Don't worry," James assured me, "He's only a first year, what he can do, and Teddy can do better in his sleep." I was first year, and I guess James was right. I only knew a bat bogey hex, Expelliarmus, and Wingardium Leviosa, aunt Hermione made me learn that last one and dad taught me Expelliarmus.
I bade him good night and went to bed.
